There's something just oddly appealing about the Metroid 1 Samus art and designs. I like how slim and robotic it all is, as opposed to the later, bulkier design adopted in Metroid II and used throughout the rest of the series.

Other M was not bad. It was Team Ninja trying to introduce a more story driven narrative in the game rather than exploring an un-known planet, like Fusion but not aswell executed. It no where near reaches the dizzying heights of the prime series, but it was not as terribad as every thinks. Discuss.

problem with other m is it didn't know what it wanted to be. He wanted a story to explore samus' character. So he instead made the game take place during a time that she should have already known what to expect and ultimately should've been a prequel.
The forced scanning i spy parts were really bad, and didn't work most of the time. It retconned fusion which it was suppose to actually suppose to provide backstory to, missles could only be shot in first person and there were no bosses that weren't from other games (if i remember correctly).
While it wasn't bad enough to kill a series, as we'd need something like 3 shadow the hedgehog like games to kill the series, it was pretty bad but i'm hoping they're going to fix their mistakes and actually realize how they can expand on the universe as they intended, and still keep the franchise what it's liked and known for.

I agree that they were less creative with bosses and that some gameplay choices were fucking awful. But the game itself was a very different formula to what made Metroid so very popular previously, it was trying to meld the 3d gameplay of prime with the scrolling room by room gameplay of a more action oriented game, even though it was meant to be centered on story. I would like to see a 2nd game like other M but most likely on the 3DS with more gameplay choices taken from Prime and Fusion, the gameplay itself, in terms of running and shooting and the pace of itself in general was stellar. But they were lazy in the game design and some ideas were down-right awful, but over-all it was decent first 'effort'. I wouldn't even bother comparing to the primes but even so it was not, as I said earlier, as awful as everyone says OVER-ALL.

In the 2D games these things were an absolute nightmare when they latched onto you. If you just laid one bomb like you are able to do in Prime, it wouldn't do shit. You have to roll all over the place dropping bombs like mad until you just barely manage to break free from its death grip, and pray to GOD another one doesn't immediately clawgrab you. Not to mention the fact that they were impossible to kill without freezing, while in Prime any beam or missile could make those fanged jellyblobs 'splode with no trouble.

I like to go with the fan wankery explaination that it's because the Metroids on Tallon IV have all received extensive exposure to Phazon, making them less stable and more easily killable than the standard SR388-exterminatus variety.

I think for the next metroid game they need to think about what actually makes a good metroid game

The basic premise is about exploration. item and upgrades provide an incentive and reward for this, while enemies and bosses pose a challenge.

This is then enhanced by the:

I think the main problem with Nintendo now is that they can't simply create a world and let people explore it, they have to drag you around on a leash, so you never really feel like you discovering anything, which is completely undermining the spirit of the Metroid franchise.

They either need to learn to stop holding the players hand throughout the whole game, or hand Metroid off to another company and let them do their own thing.

The Chozo in Metroid Prime were a wise and peaceful people. They came to Tallon IV seeking spiritual clarity, to escape the trappings of their own technology. They lived in harmony with nature, they built stone temples, they were basically all scientist bird-hippies. They eventually achieved a state of spiritual transcendence, gaining the ability to see through the folds of space and time, growing ever wiser through their visions. However, there were also cryptic sightings of unknowable horror and cataclysm.
And then the meteorite struck. The Chozo's paradise became plagued by a poison, one that they could not purge. Much of the wildlife was either killed by the poison or warped and twisted into demonic mutants. Even the Chozo themselves were not safe, as the Posion ate away at their minds, corrupting their spirits. And so before it was too late, before all were turned, the Chozo, knowing they themselves could not purge this poison from the land, instead went about containing it, sealing the Source of it all deep within the impact crater until their prophecised hero arrived to vanquish the Worm and cure the land.

Fuck, why the hell not make it so we have to fight BOTH, at the same time. That way, Kraid isn't a huge bitch to supermissiles because Ridley can tank them and generally stop your platforming by being a screachy flying motherfucker

and then Samus can get creative in trying to kill them both, in the sort of 'drop a spacestation on Kraid to kill him' sort of creative.

One day I was showing Metroid NES to a friend, playing through it rather quickly just out of habit for having beaten it several times. It completely slipped my mind to pick up the Varia suit.

So I'm in Tourian, rasslin' with Metroids, blasting zebetites, swearing at the fucking rinkas. I got Motherbrain down maybe half ways, not really paying a whole lot of attention, when my buddy says, "Uh, dude, you're dying."

I hadn't noticed but without the Varia I was down to my last 70 or so energy. Shit kicked into high gear. Screw attacking and freezing rinkas like a motherfucker. I take more damage. Three energy left. Three fucking energy. Fucking goddamn the way I moved I'll never do it again. I screwed like 6 rinkas in a row between those tiny platforms. Motherbrain dies. My heart is beating in my throat.

My God, the adrenaline.

Climbing that shaft was probably the most exhilarating thing I have ever done, despite having done it so many times before. My hands were shaking like mad in time to the you're-about-to-die warning beep. I knew there was plenty of extra time, but fuck I was wired. I will never feel that way again. I had to stop and grab hold of myself just to gain enough composure to keep my fingers on the keys. Just thinking about it gives me shivers.

And that was the day I discovered that the suitless Samus sprite has brown hair. It's the Varia suit that makes it green.

If you're okay with SNES graphics, Super has really good graphics for its time. If not, go with the Prime series. Gamecube has surprisingly good graphics and they're even better if you choose to emulate.

Unless something has changed, I think Trilogy is unable to be emulated properly, but I don't know the specifics. You're better off getting the Gamecube versions, Dolphin can still run those with great graphics. Personally, I use the pirate bay or demonoid for games, others might make different suggestions.

Either way, but it's probably better to just open it like with any other emulator. The Gamecube Primes you can use either a gamepad of your choice or mouse+keyboard, but gamepad's probably easier to work with. For Prime 3 you'll need either a bluetooth dongle to connect the wiimote to your computer or you can map the movements to your mouse.

My computer that is made of parts that weren't even high tier when it was made 4+ years ago can run DC and stream it at the same time. What the fuck are you running? For the most part that's me too. I haven't tried Dreamcast and I attempted PS2 once (never again...never again...) but I do have Dolphin on my computer and it's pretty hit and miss. I've tested Wind Waker a little bit, and it seems to run perfectly on some days and on others the framerate will shit itself. Twilight Princess has weird map glitches where the map looks like a pink and green pixellated clusterfuck. Metroid Prime is more or less the same as Wind Waker in regard to inconsistent framerate, except whereas with Wind Waker it usually works for me but sometimes doesn't, Metroid Prime fails to run at a decent framerate more often than it succeeds. The music also has weird skippy glitches, and sometimes I get two instances of the same track playing on top of each other at different time intervals and the resultant sound becomes way too distracting to tolerate.

LOL Dell laptops, u so crazy.

Go for it. Metroid Prime is one of those few games that have never gotten tired of. That wonder as I made my way deeper into the pirates' operations on Tallon IV, as I read more and more about their mission logs and learned more about their phazon experimentation and reverse-engineering attempts, back when each new room was a discovery, and each new boss was an absolute thrill to fight for the first time.

I really doubt the project Retro is working on right now is Metroid, I think some have said it is either Zelda or F-Zero, based on some of the people that are working with them now. Not really sure what to think.

Also, it did the same retarded shit that Other M did regarding power ups, where Samus needs permission first. At least Fusion didn't do this with all the power ups, though.

Still, what I don't get about Fusion is that the AI constantly tells Samus that her chance of survival is low. Each time she's authorized for a new power up, he tells her her chance of survival goes up. Why not give her all her power ups and once then?

Fucking Sakamoto should not be allowed to make games anymore.

So am I the only one that thinks From Software could make a great Metroid game. The world design and atmosphere in Dark Souls suggests they'd know what they're doing. I know it won't happen but apart from Retro, From is the next developer I would like to work on the series, especially since Nintendo doesn't seem to know what their own series is about.

Zero Mission is a good start. I say Super and Prime are the must-plays. Fusion and Prime 2 and 3 are great also. Personally, I think the original and Return of Samus are a bit too dated, but they're still worth playing.
