Nope, no marines anywhere near i live. I could go to the next town south of me that has a naval base, but by the time i found out what shit was going down, the ships would have probably been put on alert and gone for a day or so. and besides, what good would i do on a ship that already has all the crew it needs?
I could go up and over about 80 miles to my closest air force base, but again, what could i do?
I could load ammunition i guess. or help somehow with the fueling process i guess.
I'm pretty sure we have a national guard center of operations somewhere around seattle, and they would be the most likely to ACTUALLY accept civilian help, but again. by the time i get there most of the weapons they have in surplus would most likely be assigned to someone, and i dont have anything myself.
That leaves me my last and shockingly MOST likely choice, Joint Base Lewis-McCord. You see, i dont know if any of you know this, but that particular base ir the ONLY power projection platform to the west of the rockies. if shit WERE to go down like this with russia, THAT base would basically be front line HQ. I'm sure if i showed up near there, found some kind of wartime recruiter, and said "put me in coach" he would find me something to do.
You people forget, they most likely will not let you waltz up, grab one of their rifles, and start shooting ruskies. you would MOST likely be shot at if you approached them.
Also, the logical thing to do is make civilians fill the menial and non skilled roles before they give you a weapon. You would be driving in a supply convoy, driving a fuel truck, cooking meals, fillling sandbags, filling COUNTLESS ammo belts with rounds. Only if shit got really really real and we were about to be over run would they probably give a civvy a rifle.
