Because a large component of RPGs is your interaction with other characters, and it logically follows that when you get close enough to other people, you might enter a romantic relationship?

It's optional, anyway, so why complain about additional content?

I didn't see people throwing a shitfit about romance in Persona 3 or Harvest Moon. In fact, there's romance in all the good old RPGs. Fallout 2 had marriage. Fallout 2 had GAY marriage. This is nothing new.

I actually agree. He's one of the better gay characters because he's not a stereotype. The situation doesn't change at all if you substitute "husband" with "wife". I think the problem is Bioware making a big deal out of putting it in there. If they didn't bother with it all before the game came out, it would probably be more meaningful, but of course, they state right off the bat that they're trying to have a token gay character because that's their thing now.

Mass Effect and Bioware and Hepler aside, that's actually one of my main gripes with current rpg or what they are becoming.

I don't want to sex 15 million people in these games, I wanna explore or find cool gear or slay a goddamn dragon or save a city or whatever. And if there really needs to be romance, at least make it an integral part of the story (without me choosing between 5 different flavors of fuckbuddies) so that it actually carries some weight and significance.

I don't have a problem with the gay romance in ME3, what I do have a problem with is how ham-fistedly it was implemented in the series. They made the gay romance option on a character that has only just been established and has such a fucking cliched backstory that it's just awful.

If it were in the first or even the second game that Shepard had a homosexual relationship, then I'd be ok, but at this point in the trilogy it's like if in Harry Potter they made Harry a gay in the final book with absolutely no prior establishment or grounding.
