Out of morbid curiosity I went out and tried to see how the server of a dying game looks like, and it's actually kind of creepy.

The plains outside the city were empty as fuck, even the mobs were just lying around and way far in between them.

For the record, even for a deserted game, the ammount of mobs is so fucking low it's cringe-worthy.

Just like that cat NPC, but in that case it was more like... hmm.. I don't know, fucking pathetic.

Seriously, it made me sad for these guys, the ones who brought this game and the ones who played it and spent real money on this.

Probably to just wrap up things, or, in my case, out of morbid curiosity.

As a side note, I tried playing this game with the music off, and in this case, with no people around, it kinda felt creepy, so I logged off this game because it really really made me feel sad, I mean, I hate the F2P bullshit like the next guy, but this just proofs how fucked this system actually is, this game wasn't even on for two years, and yet, they managed to ruin it.

What's worse is that there are literally hundreds of other Korean shovelware MMORPGs just like that.
Entire empty worlds, devoid of human life. Populated solely by NPCs, content to do their mechanical duties until the end of their existence. Waiting for the day someone will sign in, and maybe, just maybe, interact with them. Talk with them. Sell something to them, buy something from them.
That day will never come. They are forever trapped until their world finally dies, and they are granted eternal peace.

You know this would make a great a game for something about exploration. A sandbox world filled with automatons and robots that do the same thing over and over even though human life is long gone. You have to find clues on why it has become like this.

I remember one time there was this thread where this guy had been running a quake server for like 4 years or someshit somehow, and the bots were programmed to get better and better to increase their k/d ratio.

When he logged onto the server, every bot was just stood in place doing nothing. Some might say they just broke after being active for so long, I like to believe that they found out that peace was the only way to perfect and maintain a completely positive k/d ratio which would be 0/0.

Free to play games and MMOs have been getting more popular fast, and most are careful to balance things without making them complete grindfests or Pay2Win, though whether they're successful at it is another story. Either way, there's not enough bored Koreans and teenagers to support all the games that were made.

Best korean grindfest MMO I played was Priston Tale. Shit had summoning bubbles that let you summon high level enemies to help you grind. Mystery bubbles were the best, since they had a chance to summon enemies from the final area of the game. You could even get a chance to summon a boss character to help you grind.

The catch? They only dropped off of a certain mob between 5-6am.

When Fantasy Earth Zero shut down all the players gathered in Velza Collosseum and in the last 5 minutes everyone spammed "FUCK PASTA FUCK GAMEPOT" over and over in chat until the second the server closed. There were still wars going on till the last second, too. God, that game was awesome.

They did have an end of the world event, yeah. All the GMs logged on and filled Ground Zero with tons of boss mobs, NPCs, nukes n' shit. Then the servers suddenly shut down. I just sat there looking at my screen not knowing what to do...

I ended Star Wars Galaxies just looking over my little homestead on Tatooine as the countdown began. There's nothing quite like the experience of visiting a dying MMO, the sense of going down with the ship is strangely alluring and lots more people came onto SWG prior to its deletion.

Darth Vaders were everywhere, Krayt Dragons were spawned in the cities and there were fireworks all over the place, fucking up my FPS even on a decade year old game.

It truly was the end of days.

I was working with it. Was a nifty little gaming environment that needed some more content essentially. But when an MMO isn't making money, who's paying your devs? Along with the fact that LEGO bought the game back off NetDevil around half way through the game life.

Had potential, built some fun stuff on my properties in downtime from work. The community was pretty tight too. Lots of kids building crazy cool shit and some of the LEGO Master builders arsing around in the build areas. Just lacked character progression really. Then that got forced in through an achievement points based levelling system, Which was cocks.
