One thing I'd like to say, though I doubt the authenticity of these claims, is that streaming video and rendering two instances of completely different sets of graphics (one for the screen and one for the tablet) is going to eat through RAM. I don't see 2Gb being enough even with a much beefier gpu than the ps360.

It wouldn't surprise me at all. Nintendo really needs the console plus tablet at $400 or less.

Even if the processor is just a Dual-Core, POWER7 blows away the PowerPC processor inside the 360 if for no other reason than it has access to all of the POWER architecture enhancements made since ages ago.

As well, its RV770 based. Meaning it comes from the same family as the 4800 series. The PS3 has a fancy Geforce 7600, and the xbox 360 was an X1800 chip with some new features. Since Microsoft had the X1800 chip modded for the 360, it'd be no surprise to me to find that the 4800 in the Wii-U has been modified as well.

Honestly, I can't believe a word of the article. I'd more inclined to believe that MS or Sony flashed some cash in some developer's/Publisher's faces to turn tail on the Wii-U, and now they need a public reason for why.

And they don't just acknowledge it's existence, they are actually working with it.
Crytek is also working with Kinect so I guess you could open that can of worms if you want to compare it to WiiU.

The Gamecube was less powerful than the Wii and it had arguably better games.
If I strap my nostalgia goggles on REALLY tight I could even go so far to say that N64 games were better than Gamecube's.

A few years back Valve praised the Wii about how "awesome" and "innovative" it is, and that it has "won this generation", yet they haven't released ANYTHING there. We know as a fact it has a Power 7 and a GPU based on the R770. If it isn't obvious, that alone makes it better than the current gen.

So when they announced this they were pointing out how there would be more cross-platform game support for the Wii U. But if the graphics are worse than PS360, then that means that either A. games on PS360 will be held back so that Wii U can handle it or B. the Wii U will not support many cross-platforming games that do take full advantage of the PS360.

Ofc it's gonna be more powerful than the current gen, the question is by HOW MUCH and if it's gonna be worth it or just another gimmick attempting to squeeze money from casuals. 50% increase in power is quite bad imo. Current PCs are 7-12 times more powerful.

The only thing Genesis had was Blast Processing, which I have to admit is neat, but is somewhat of limited use.

The cost of making something more powerful than the PS3 or 360 would be negligible compared to only making something half as strong (or as powerful as the wii).

There are chinese off-brand android phones right now that can run games that look better than the wii has for under $150... So nintendo having access to a poweroutlet and something with the formfactor of a huge hardcover book should give them more then enough free space to jew-out on the components and STILL have it smash the PS3 or 360 in capabilities.

Use some critical thinking, /v/, Esp. considering how much shit nintendo got this gen based off the power of the wii(i mean lets be honest, that was the only real reason it didnt obliterate the competition. If it had held the core-gamers as well as casuals the 360 or PS3 would have turned into dreamcast 2)

Noooo, the SNES was more powerful than the Sega Genesis in varying aspects. From my understanding, the color pallete of the SNES, the amount of layers, the sound, the usage of special chips for more resource intensive games, and scaling with mode 7 made the SNES more powerful than the Genesis. The titles that are confirmed so far are mostly just the devs talking about their games on Wii-U last year.

We need to wait until this year's E3 to know even the real specs of the thing, the launch/future titles are to be shown as well.

Either way, the mayority of its confirmed games will release at launch, including D2.

Which basically means that they would have to beef up CPU/GPU hardware considerably, also the main RAM/vRAM considerably, to match the streaming demand of 2 or four tablet controllers. Which would drive the price of the console up in the 500-600 dollar range easily.
