They're people like Goldman Sachs, as opposed to people like you or me buying shares. Being in the market 30 min gives them an opportunity to buy or sell before us chumps
I also don't understand how and why things go up and down at the beginning of the day, can you sell/buy things during the night aswell?
I think its what I just referred too, a share might close at say $100 monday night, institutional investors' trading might push it to $125 before the market opens, therefore it opens 25% up
