The side quest of collecting the flowers for the old man and it turns out his wife is dead really struck me. Initially I was very happy to go across the map to help this bro out, because of all the characters I had me that far were absolute tools.

When I came back and the twist happened, at first I felt sorry for the delusional old man, then I became angry at the game for wasting my time picking flowers and giving me nothing in return, and I was especially pissed off at Rockstar for stealing the plot of Psycho

Beth does get raped
Jack is annoying and mentally disturbed, he's an okay person though, just highly disturbed plus annoying.
If you want to play as John Marston but still finish the game turn off autosave before the final mission.
Make sure to read the newspaper or at least buy it after every mission, hilarious or depressing shit can be found in it.
Money is practically worthless at the end of the game so go gun ho crazy as much as you want.
When you jump onto your horse from a high place like a balcony you instantly mount it, use this smartly in multiplayer.
Blind fire is highly impractical with weapons not called a shotgun.
Do all of the stranger missions, they're worth it, trust me, lots of feels are to be had.
Mexico starts off pretty slow but eventually the political intrigue and parody builds up to one hilarious yet depressing finale.

The story isn't what's amazing about it, it's the experience. I really, really loved playing the game. Moreso than any gta game I've ever played. The setting, characters and references to old westerns were what made me fall in love with it.

Undead nightmare is also amazing. You NEED to play it. Not for the actual gameplay but for the tacky low budget horror movie style it has going on. There's a mission with a train and oh shit I'll leave it at that.

The sidequests were all just kind of boring fetchquests, but it was the story and the twists behind them that made them fun to play.

It's pretty fun but it get's bogged down because there's just assholes who are insanely good and take away all the fun from it. It's not exactly what you want to play when it comes to being "competitive."

When you know a couger or a bear is near you it's fine.
When it sneeks up on you because you where distracted or somthing and slaps you and your horses shit it can get a bit frantic.

I hate how the heads just explode all the time, because I really loved how in the normal game you could see the exit hole from someone head after shooting them with parts of their scalp hanging off.

It's 10 dollars for an 8-12 hour campaign with shitloads of side missions and a completely fun but dying multiplayer mode. It's worth it, don't buy the DLC pack disc though, it gives you some relatively useless shit, like RDR Poker in multiplayer, and costumes from Red Dead Revolver.

The idea of a zombie apocalypse in the old west was odd to me at first but they did a surprisingly good job on it. For 5 - 10 bucks you really can't go wrong. It has a pretty great soundtrack too.

In singleplayer, i hunt for black people in towns and villlages, inside bars, in their bedrooms, I'm a one man klan member. The only thing I can bitch about in RDR is that you can't parkour, in small towns. But you're a fucking cowboy, why the fuck would you need parkour anyhow? Still found it pretty weird how easy it was to parkour with Niko though, helped me do the 6* wanted level achievement easily without using tunnels and on foot only.

Me and my friend were playing RDR last last year or something. I havent played it since so my memory is a little sketchy, but there is a glitch inside this house, mansion type place in the spanish area, in the front hallway entrance to the mansion through the doors, theres a vase on a table in the corner of the room, if you run and jump constantly at the wall, you'll jump over through the wall and then you'll be underneath the mansion in this glitchy area, it's good if you wanna hold off cops or something

There were a lot of good characters in this game, it's major flaw was that most of them just vanish midway, never to return. I was expecting Ricketts to be an Obi Wan type character, but he was only in it for like 5 missions.

If your horse is badly injured and you don't let it rest it just dies eventually, also some snake bites don't auto kill your horse and takes some time to kill it. Next time try not to stray too far from the road, and if you do make sure to always go fast, if you have to slow down go on foot, keep your ears plus eyes peeled. Horses are pretty resilient, but they're not fucking tanks either, take care of them.

No, he was a well written character once you think what sort of life he had and in what conditions he grew up in. Him not being annoying or mentally disturbed after all the shit that happened in his life would have been bad writing. John was a good man, but he was also a fool, he started to realize what his gang life was doing to his family, when that lifestyle bit him in the ass. His efforts after turned out to be too late and too little to be effective. To top it all off he left his son during puberty, a very angsty and rebellious time for nearly all humans.

I saw that twist coming unfortunately.
After doing the sidequest for that old "bride-to-be" and finding her fiance is dead, I sort of expected that nothing would go right in other sidequests.
Like the Daedalus one, or Jenny's Faith.

Come to think of it, did any sidequests end well? Except the Blackmail in Blackwater, that one was way too short too compare.

I may cop some hate for this but there is only one pet peeve of mine for RDR. Over the entire section where you play as John, you are told that the West is rapidly changing and that the cowboy's way of life will soon be ended, cars will completely replace horses and ranches such as MacFarlands would go bankrupt.

This was in 1911, 3 years later when you play as Jack NOTHING HAS CHANGED!!!! I do realise that creating a new landscape would be a pain, but little touches such as cars, better roads or more law enforcement would have been nice to concrete the ever stronger presence of the wild west being tamed.

i see where you're coming from and i agree. the reason for this probably has a lot to do with them not wanting to change large portions of the world because of any incomplete stranger side missions or maybe because sudden changes to the game world wouldn't have been received well by many.

Though there are no overt indications to this, it's my belief that the game takes place in Purgatory; the entire story happening while he bleeds out.

So many of the characters are just so absurd and out of place, that it makes much more sense that they're wandering souls seeking absolution than people who've just stumbled west.

I'd suggest the GOTY version just because it's a complete package. all the dlc release for RDR is on the GOTY copy

my biggest complaint with the GOTY copy was the poster it comes with was a fucking double sided MAP. front side is the normal map, the back is just an Undead Nightmare version, meaning its the same but with green colors.

Depends what you're looking for in the writing, RDR is at its heart, still a dark comedy that takes a piss on American values, history and culture. The only recent thing to come close is GTAIV, but even it has some extremely outrageous shit present in all GTA games. Maybe Syndicate or Fallout for old games, but those play it a bit too straight at times even with all the Monty Python references in the first Fallouts or political jokes of the time in Syndicate. Maybe I need to replay them though, I'm older now so I'll probably understand the much more subtle humor.

That's cool to have a interpretation like that, but many stories were pulled from old West tales and it's suppose to be a observation as to how heat affects the mind of the players, and others, and essentially how you could get away with anything (thus the necos side story). He's even a reference to a man who tried his best to mummify his dead wife and made love to if for a few years while the community didn't know about it.

I've bought and sold RDR twice, and now I got it again for $15 and still find it underwhelming. I'm not bashing RDR, I really want to enjoy it but I can only take horse riding through an excellent looking landscape of nothing to auto-lock onto 10 bad dudes and kill them effortlessly so many times before it gets old. Honestly, the mini-games and hunting were the only thing that kept me playing.

I just played through RDR a second time. If you havent I recommend it. That game was even better the second time around. John is such a likable character and the story is fucking amazing. The game truly makes me feel like a cowboy in the dieing west. When you go to black water you feel so out of place. Its a nice feeling. I also loved the paper article you can read as Jack at the end of the game. Tells you about every character.
