I don't see what knowing the theme or a basic outline of the story would change. I like all his past adventure games, which all have totally different stories and themes, because I like adventure games, and I like Schafer's characters and writing.
Whether the project had been detailed beforehand as an underwater adventure about a school of tuna, or a space adventure about an alien who gets separated from his mothership, or an adventure adventure about an adventurer exploring the New World with his trusty lemur at his side - I would have been equally interested any way. Because I'm not buying the game for its theme, I'm buying it for its similarities with Schafer's previous adventure games.
I don't understand how this is such a difficult concept for you.
