I'm not saying to wrap your arms around them and invade their privacy big time, making them uncomfortable.
They are there to get paid by talking, posing, and signing shit. If you place a hand on their shoulders for a picture, I see no harm in it. If it's around the waist, they might get concerned and ask you to move your hand, or hell they might be cool with it, after all, it's just a photo for a fan.
As with my friends when ever I posed in pictures with them, I either had my hands on their shoulder, waist, or some what on top of their butt. Never had a problem with any of those 3 with any girl at all. I would also be close to them as well, not far apart with an arm hoovering behind them. Shit is awkward looking.
