At the end of the day, i'm still going to play this. I had too much fun with the first two not to give Visceral the benefit of the doubt. Plus I want to know how Isaac is holding up.
The co-op is optional so I'm not so pissed over that. It doesn't make much sense to include it in the first place, but if I can still play foreveralone Isaac with a Plasma Cutter, i'm happy.
Roll and cover are...I don't know. It seems like the heavy, stompan, clunky, vaccum and gravity based gameplay that made such a big impact (at least on me) in the earlier games is gone. Definitely a sign of combat catering towards enemies with guns as well, which pisses me off.
Not that it wouldn't be kind of cool to explore more of the Unitologist's background and kill some of the pious freaks, but if anything signals a largely unwelcome change of atmosphere in the game, it's this.
As for ACTION PACKED, yeah that's gay. Visceral struck what I felt was a good balance between tension, atmosphere and shit going to hell in the earlier games, I still have a little trust in them not to over-saturate DS3 with explosions, heavy weaponry, big enemies and scripted sequences.
But. Just saw a guy throw a grenade at Isaac in the vid. Not impressed. Where are my tight, flickering corridors? Where the fuck is my INSIDE?
The feel of DS1 and even DS2 are gone, all I can hope is that there's enough of the spirit left in DS3 to make it worth at least one playthrough.
