It's just that many people seem to think that Kanji Tatsumi from Persona 4 was gay, as said by his very flamboyant shadow. I don't believe this. Shadows in Persona 4 are said to be the embodiments of repressed human thoughts and emotions, the "true self". The thing is, in the normal and true endings, it's mentioned that the midnight channel and TV world(where shadows appear) don't just reflect these, but are made to show more of what the people in Persona 4 want to see, or believe. This suggests that shadows aren't simply repressed emotions of the person they're a part of, but are also influenced by the perceptions and desires of the other people in the game's setting. This may be shown through other characters as well. Shadow Rise was going to put on a strip show. Rise was an idol, she could have easily been viewed as trashy, or an exhibitionist by some of the townspeople. Her fame and perceived beauty could also have led to some of the townspeople wanting that sort of show from her.
Kanji's shadow also mentions that different people made fun of him for having hobbies perceived as feminine, like sewing and the like, and they would make jokes about him, calling him a queer. I think these people viewed him as being gay, or at least flamboyant just because of these activities. This perception of theirs is probably what influenced his appearance on the midnight channel.
