They wanted to make a gameplay experience that would be unique, but still keep it fresh. Problem was, people don't like change. I won't lie and say that I didn't like most of the updates, even the Sniper/Spy one that introduced the hats and brought forth the worst the community had to offer. However, it felt like Valve lost touch with what they originally set to make and started to turn it into their lab rat for game mechanics under the guise of a dress up simulator instead of a shooter. If you play more recent Valve games, you'll see a lot of things that were in TF2, except more refined.
>>144955759There are a grand total of two, maybe three, vanilla servers. That doesn't mean "DURR NO HATS BECAUSE THEY HAET IT", that means stock loadout only and unaltered values for damage. The population for these servers is generally low and it's not often that these servers are populated because their playerbase has moved on for the most part.
