They didn't. They remade all the maps by hand to modernize them. They redid the voice work, they redid the music, they redid the AI. Everything.
It's not HL:S the High Def Project. It's Black Mesa. It's not so much a reboot as a re-visioning, it's a TC.
My only qualm is that it is source and it's unlikely that they've spent time and effort fixing some of the fundamental flaws of sources hitboxes.
Hopefully it has less hitreg issues than HL1 and HL:S did though.

A 7 year project they did for free for the love of a game and for their fans. You gotta be fucking pathetic to think this game is gonna turn out to be a DNF. They took the time out of their own personal lives to complete a total conversion mod (i wouldn't even call it a mod, it's longer and has more quality than 75% of most fucking games you buy) of one of the top fps games of all time.

This would be a game you buy for 60 US dollars.

No, it's fucking free. And it's been tweaked countless of times every year bc of something didn't seem right or people might complain about this certain thing just by listening to their dedicated fans and sometimes unfortunately to ungrateful cunts like it seems to be all these codfags here on /v/

I'd be surprised if any of you actually played through all of Half-Life in your childhoods.

Call of Duty was always mediocre, and a rehash of something mediocre is bad.

Serious Sam is through and through an "okay" seroes. It's not hailed as one of the greatest shooters of all time. Serious Sam HD was also "okay". Why would people get excited about it?

Black Mesa isn't a rehash, it's a complete overhaul of a game that has aged badly and people are excited to play it again.

No. Development on xen is already underway and we hope to have it finished up in a reasonable timeframe. Xen is going to basically be a complete game in its own right, it's not going to be just an epilogue to the game; more of a whole new chapter. It'll be pretty well expanded.

this is an entire new game. completely different from Half-Life besides the storyline and the enemies. the puzzles and maps and mechanics are all completely different. and overhauled the fuck.
