It definitely made the most out of the DS version.
>Trade? You basically had to dump your goods/bells on the ground and hope that your trade partner doesn't just take them, and not give anything in exchange.
It was very much a matter of trust, or switching off the power before they leave the town gate.
But yeah you can trade, in fact there are sites that basically operate auctions for Animal Crossing goods.
I used to use one called Nookbay, would regularly help people get nice items by ordering stuff from my catalogue.
>Farm items from other worlds? Ehhhh, you'll mostly be limited to gathering foreign fruits, and maybe different time-based events stuff if they set their DS clock to a different time.
A big reason you might visit another town is if Tom Nook is buying turnips for an absurdly good price.
>Or can you only exchange messages and look at their house? You can go look at their house and chat, but chat is pretty restrictive.
>I don't have any close friends with 3DSAnimal Crossing works fine picking up friend codes or arranging meetups or trades on boards like /vg/ or even GameFAQs.
