I'll take the few great games over the massive amount of shitty games.

I didn't really like the N64 that well though. I mean I loved Super Mario 64, Majora's Mask, and Banjo Kazooie but because those are the games that keep me coming back to the N64, I don't really attribute them to the N64 and tend to look at them as individual experiences, as opposed to other consoles like the SNES and NES where I look at the game library as a whole.

PS1 had one game that I absolutely fucking loved and that was Castlevania: Symphony of the Night. I also liked FF7, Digimon World, and Mega Man Legends 2, but let's face it, most of those games have aged horribly or were just flat out not that great when they came out. Digimon World was always a special game to me but I have to admit that it's shit. Mega Man Legends 2 is just a strafe and shoot fest. If you hold a direction to strafe in and hold the fire button on every single boss you will never die. On top of that there was a glitch where you could fire very rapidly as if that wasn't enough.

Call me a nostalgiafag, but that was the moment where I just gave up on Castlevania games. I loved 1, 3, 4, and Bloodlines, but after that they just started either sucking hard, or going off in a way different direction than the original games.

FF7 basically was the bees knees back then and still to this day is one of my favorite games. So many hours put into that game. When I was in 5th grade and summer vacation started I played it non stop over and over again. So many feels were had. Oh baby.

Majora's Mask had the most content packed in the smallest area, had the greatest level of challenge, had the best puzzles, it was the most non-linear which is good for the Zelda series, etc.

they don't, but PS1 sold more simply because it had way more and better games.

we had a thread like this a few months ago and someone posted a massive list of exclusives (he didn't even include FF since it was on PC) and PS1 still utterly destroyed N64.

N64 fans always run to Mario & Zelda, other than that, they run to generic cutesy platformers like Banjo and terrible Shooters like Goldeneye, simply they don't hold up, Nostalgia does not make them good.

N64 only did better at multiplayer. but even then PC was all ready doing 32 player online, so eh.

It was hard as far as Zelda games go, which isn't saying much. Also the puzzles were shit, way too complex and numerous for an action/puzzle hybrid. And you keep touting it as non linear but I don't think you know what that means, because all the Zeldas are non linear.

You've obviously never even played either then.

The Water Temple was a retarded, non-challenging, tedious piece of shit. It was just really long and boring. Thinking it's "hard" is a common misconception made by new gamers such as yourself. You think that you can go around saying "I beat the Water Temple!" and everyone will be impressed. Well I have news for you. You're wrong.

There is one part in the Water Temple where people didn't know where to go, and it's where you have to raise the water in the room in the very middle of the main area of the temple, then sink down with the boots and go under a platform that was raised with the water to get that key that people couldn't find. That's it. Once you know that, the Water Temple is just big boring linear piece of shit with no real challenge or danger of any sort.

The Stone Tower involved flipping the temple upside down to complete various challenges, redirecting light, and bombing walls / floors with no indication that you need to do so (I.E. the wall / floor doesn't look "cracked" as if you can bomb it; you have to actually think about "if I bomb this wall right in this exact spot, where will that take me to?) You had to make decisions regarding all of your surroundings, including rooms that aren't even nearby. There were puzzles involving the human, deku, goron, and zora forms of Link. Not to mention, enemies that could actually kill you even if you had the defense boost and the maximum number of hearts you could get up to that point.

You never played either game if you think the Water Temple is challenging yet don't think the Stone Tower temple is challenging.

And that is really not a factor to take in to consideration at all. Did you know in Mario 3 you could use one of the several infinite flute glitches, get to any point in the game, and warp back? I guess Mario 3 must be the most non-linear game of all time!

Majora's Mask had more content that you didn't need to do, but experienced benefits for doing so. That is good for that type of game because the idea is that you did extra work beyond what was necessary and thus you are rewarded for doing so. In fact, if there is an adventure game that doesn't have that element, then what the fuck is the point in even playing it?

Saying that you can get the item and leave the temple in Ocarina of Time is an absolutely pointless argument. You're going to have to kill the bosses eventually so why not just do it while you're in there? Why would you complete 75% of a temple, leave, and come back later to finish it? Especially considering that beating the boss rewards you by giving you heart container. What you are describing as "non-linear" is actually just completely pointless and serves no purpose within the game.

I'll admit that the platform adventure games on the N64 are much better than sony's mascot platformers, but the PS1 wins out even in the number of overall classics. There's a good variety of action, horror, RPGs, and neat Japanese games on the PS1 as well.
So many of the N64's best games have mario in the title which is kinda sad.

The Ps1 wins in quality and quantity.

Ocarina of Time is a very deep game and a work of art that is admired by all who are able to appreciate it.

There's so much going on in the game that isn't even covered by the main narrative, but sits there waiting to be discovered.
Take the rape and murder of the sisters who lived in the Lost Woods's castle, the ancient bank of Hyrule seated in Lake Hylia, the black magic experimentation labs underneath the graveyard, the sacrificial caverns carved into Death Mountain.
All these small things and more that cover the rich history of Hyrule just waiting to be explored.
The subtle hints at the deaths of the sages, the torment you see in Mido as his only love is taken from him forever.
The fear in Ingo as he realises his prized stallion, intended for the dark lord, is stolen from him.

I mean you get the idea, I could go on about every aspect of this game and say enough to fill a book. No other game has come close in terms of depth or emotion. It's simply a fantastic game.

The N64 v PS1 is the same exact matchup as the PS2 v Gamecube.

The playstations had massive libraries full of classic titles that were so diverse ANYONE could find something they like on the system. The Nintendo consoles had great first-party titles and failed to capture third-party support in any appreciable way.

I recently played through OOT for the first time, and I made mention that the Water Temple is only hard for mongoloids that didn't see the hole in the central chamber when you raise the water level to the midpoint, and that it's the most piss-easy dungeon in the whole series.

A friend of my girlfriend's, a GAYMUR GURL DIABLOW AND ASS AFFECT 24/7, recently started a play through of OOT for the first time on the 3DS. Never owned a home console from Nintendo, never played the game before now. Didn't know where to go after the Deku Tree (got to Hyrule, and she's probably still stuck there), and didn't know time doesn't move while in the town.

She agreed with me and said the Water Temple is piss easy.

How does this happen?

But the game actually isn't linear. You don't have to do all of the temples in order, and you can explore around Hyrule whenever you want. A linear game is something like FF 13 where you're actually forced down a linear path with nothing else to do. That being said, linearity isn't necessarily bad either.

What exactly do you define as filler? Most of OoT is spent going through the dungeons solving puzzles and fighting enemies to progress the plot. If you think that's filler you're on crack. As for RPGs, yes the PS had more, but they just weren't that great.
Chrono Cross is the best and that says a lot. Compared to the titles like Brian's Quest and Paper Mario, everything other rpg on the PS really pales in comparison.

I was objective as possible, it's just that the N64 comes heads up in almost all the categories.

I'm trying to be fair but you're just not getting it. If you want the pinnacle of RPGs then you go for the SNES. During the 5th gen however, N64 holds the title.

For its 6 year lifespan, it has a small library
Way too expensive, not enough diverse, not enough games.
Waiting for months for one fucking game is not very fun, and then to play for months does not make it better.

N64 is the "baby's first console", for little kids that are satisfied playing platformers for all eternity because their parents buy them new games every 6 months.You can't compare the awesome lan parties I had with my bros every weekend with Goldeneye's shitty controls, lame and slow gameplay and splitscreen.

The only thing that n64 did right,was in the platformers.

The pc+ps1 combo outclasses anything in the 90's.

ogre 64 and brians quest were mediocre, great on the n64 since there was fuck all else to play, but nothing compared to the ps1 library. And dont start saying weeaboo when your on 4chan, a board based off a japanese board seriously.
