The vocal commenters that get upvoted most are annoying as fuck, and the front page links are stale and uninteresting, definitely. You realise that assuming all people that visit Reddit are like this is the same as people thinking all of 4chan is /b/ though, right?
As an example, there are several video games subreddits, and I think the most popular one is on the front page. That's the one full of annoying kids saying 'so am I the only one that likes old games like this? xD [imgur picture of Ocarina of Time]'. If you look at the right side of the screen though, there are several similar subreddits including one full of informative, up-to-date news with good discussion. I have a couple of friends that are Redditors, and they don't spew memes, the only reason I know that they use it is because if I ask if they've seen, say, the latest trailer for a game, they'll say 'yeah, it went up right away on this subreddit' and go on to tell me stuff I didn't know from the comments.
