If the surfaces were solid, it'd be ok, but if the blocks are all individual entities all the time then my computer will melt.

That's because A) Minecraft is done in Java which is a bad choice for games that handle as much data as Minecraft and B) Notch is a shit programmer and the game is unoptimized.

It looks like wollay know's what he's doing, so Cubeworld should run better.

There's kind of mining, if you watch the videos. You can find veins and bash them with your weapons and get material to bring to a blacksmith to make a sword or modify your weapons.
