Small map, the highest mountain is 700m high, the whole region is 5x6 km² or something, the wildlife behavior is horrible, you'll notice how quick travel leads to less attention to detail in areas where players are less likely to be, vegetation is sparsely and the bethesda-typical flaws don't make it any better.
Morrowind was a bit nicer, but still not very good.
Don't get me wrong, these games are still miles better than, say modern shooters or something, in regards to walking, but they're still extremely far away from something like a "walking simulator".
