Super Mario Land, SML2, Wario Land, WL2 were all direct sequels to each other. Wario Land 3 wasn't related to the earlier games but did get a sequel in the form of a Dr. Mario game, of all things. Wario Land 4 really isn't related to any other Wario game, and the WarioWare series kind of branches off into an entirely separate universe. WLShake can be considered a continuation from WL2, though its unlikely to get a sequel any time soon.
So in other words, if you ignore the WarioWare series you could say there's a canon, but I don't think Nintendo cares enough to even think about it.
