What's more, it's done so cheaply that people can make a tile with no real attachment to it. Spend 30 minutes drawing your tile, making sure all the edges are just right, and you'll have a great tile. Just slapping some picture onto the tile is a recipe for a boring, lifeless tile.
Yes, you can say "well, if that tile is good, then how can it be bad?" You can say that about pretty much anything. However, most are not good. They are lazy, and it shows.
