We have a friend (let's call her L), she lives out on the farm by herself after her husband passed away. Her only neighbor was a little old lady down the end of the road (let's call her M), the little old lady was incredibly bitter and paranoid but our friend L insisted to drop by to make sure M was okay every now and again.
M used to claim L was stealing things when she was over, even small things like can openers, I don't think she was all there. She had no family and or friends and at M's funeral, there was less than 10 people there including L and the priest.
L took one of her trips it'd been over a month to go visit M, she found M inside dead. She'd become so ill she could not get out of bed, however M lived with cat and when the cat became hungry it began to eat parts of M. This of course caused the limb that was beginning to be eaten to become incredibly infected and the infection is ultimately what killed M.
L told us how horrible it was when she came inside, M had defecated her bed, and the cat had even begun eating her eyes.
I found it saddest that this little old woman died alone, almost no one attended her funeral since she'd driven everyone except L away.
Sadly L the past few months has started to have dementia set in. She's been a family friend for well over 30 years now and her sons have sent her to a retirement home. She tells us how she misses the farm. She'd lived on it most of her life, and even after her husband passed away at the age of 70 she would still take care of the cattle. Last I saw her a year ago for her age she was still so full of life and strong, she would walk every day, it's so sad to see in such a short period of time her mind slip away.
Dying alone is a scary thought OP.
