People who go solo during something like a zombie apocalypse would have to be nuts. The entire history of warfare has demonstrated that organised units who train and plan well are virtually unstoppable (British SAS, Navy Seals etc.). In the event that your family dies and you still have the will to live, you would want to group together with your most loyal and strongest friends and begin training up to survive whilst networking with any remaining military divisions and accepting that your life will now be as a lowly private in the rebirth of the national military. Anything else would be illogical.

Gather your people. More supplies for others when they find you all picked off from battle. Besides, it's much harder to pin one man that it is to pin a whole camp of people, much harder to retreat 10+ people than it is to retreat by yourself. And it’s a hell of a lot easier to extract mounds of intel from 5+ people than it is from 1 guy. Then again it wouldn’t even be worth it for the 1 guy so chances are you just get executed over having to hear and see your friends and family suffer.
More people, more problems.
Before the manmade architecture of organized warfare, survival of the fittest has proven one man can only seize victory for one man; himself.
