I do subscribe to the "hopefully moving toward a new dawn, a unified vision of caring of the earth and as one connected planetary family." viewpoint, which is, still, basically impossible.
Humans are still humans, after all. If we had no strife, we'd have no reason to improve. This broadened consciousness is thanks to, in part, the struggles we face. Conversing with a global community arose from a need to talk to people far away from us, which inspired telephones, intranet/internet, news, morse code, radios, etc etc.
So, even if we are plunged into a new era of collective consciousness, we would lose the integral drive that continues to make this race improve.
