Tell me all of your local legends

Pic related: About 20 minutes or so from me there is this house everyone in the area only refers to as "The Watchers"

Legend is a few decades ago the daughter of the family was kidnapped and brutally slaughtered, and the entire family snapped. Now they have 24/7 surveillance running and at least one person is always awake. If you drive past their house slowly/repeatedly, they will chase you down regardless of the hour.

They have been known to use weapons, too- last time my friends and I did it (about 2 AM), a guy ran out suddenly and chased our car with a knife

The Mission Inn Hotel and Spa, Riverside
The Mission is reputed to be the most haunted place in the Inland Empire. The product of more than a century of renovations, additions, bankruptcies and restorations, the hotel can best be described as the Madonna Inn on steroids.
It began life in 1876, as a 12-room adobe boarding house owned by Christopher Columbus Miller, who sold the property to son Frank four years later. Over subsequent decades Frank obsessively built up the site, adding four-story wings here, a medieval-style chapel there, a catacomb down below. Today it’s a national historic landmark occupying a full city block and a major revenue stream for the city, which it predates.
With its gothic (or Tuscan or Baroque or Mediterranean—Frank never could settle on a style) architecture, the Inn is a magnet for spooky stories. The Internet abounds with reports of supernatural phenomena occurring in the Inn’s foyers, hallways, staircases and several of its 248 rooms. Many of the alleged incidents occurred in or near rooms once occupied by members of the Miller family, leading to speculation that the property’s former owners are none too happy with the present owner’s frequent use of the facilities for Republican fundraisers.
The most oft-reported phenomena involves guests who say they were suddenly and mysteriously shoved from behind while on the hotel’s famous spiral staircase. One such incident allegedly occurred in 1993, when a couple on their honeymoon abruptly checked out of the Inn after the bride claimed to have been jostled by invisible hands while descending the staircase. Whether the event was an actual paranormal occurrence or simply the groom trying to escape a lifelong commitment remains unknown.

i live in missouri and have taken taken a tour of the old prison thats supposed to be haunted in Jeff City it hasnt held what you would call famous but pretty well known criminals. I kinda did a little exploring by myself on the tour and heard some weird things like whispers but i could have just been that its an old building.

Legend states that around the turn of the 20th century murders led to the haunting now known as 'The Ada Witch'.

An unfaithful young woman would meet her lover in the wooded area surrounding the cemetery on 2 Mile Road. One night, the woman's husband, seething with jealousy, followed his wife to her encounter. As the lovers embraced rage overcame the husband and he murdered his cheating wife on the spot. He then turned his attention to her lover. However, the lover was not such an easy kill. They were both evenly matched and died at the spot of their battle.

Today the apparition of the woman is seen in the woods. She is sometimes described as being a beautiful dark haired woman, but others described the apparition as a ghastly looking woman that bore the injuries of her murder. Other activity witnessed includes seeing bluish-green mists and orbs floating near the cemetery.

Hunters in the conservation area have reported footsteps behind them and the sounds of a woman weeping and sometimes bone chilling shrieks. Hunters have also stated that they have felt a tap on their shoulder and upon turning around discovering that no one is there.

At least you guys have unique myths and legends. Over here in my area we just have the classic Lady in White, School Bus on Train Tracks, The Crying Lady, and numerous Gravity Hills. These are nice, but overused.

I remember my Dad talking about snake people in the the village from he used to live in, but I never really caught the whole story. Such is the life southern California.

I like my area of southern California. A lot of the stories are pretty good.

My mom comes from a village in southern Mexico (maybe Central America- my grandmother was a midwife and never learned English and we don't know very much about where they came from because she died before we could get a good answer. My mom's birth certificate says she and her sister are 3 months apart so we can't even depend on things like that).

My mom has a story about her dad meeting the devil in the woods.

He was hunting (their village had no electricity/flooring and they were hunters and farmers) and he stepped into a clearing in the forest and saw a man with the legs of a goat- but on his feet were blue high heeled shoes.

My mom used to tell me the story all the time when I was a little kid, but I haven't heard it in years, but I will always associate the devil with blue high heeled shoes now because of it.

Once I walked in the back gate with some friends on Halloween, there was an enormous purple flash in the sky above the generators near the cafeteria, but too certainly not lightning. Mfw every light in the complex goes out one by one. As soon as I left, they all flickered back on at once.

There are a few abandoned factories and mental asylums, nothing really serious.

This one is most likely not true. But when I was in like 8th grade my friend was telling me about this road that if you drive over the third hill exactly at 3 you would see a ghost or some shit. I brushed it off and mostly forgot it.

The only tales I know about in Moscow is about the metro. People who live underground in elaborate societies. Apparently people have found dungeons. Ghosts of the dead. The most intelligent dogs in the world - although that's fact. I think the metro systems in USA have similar legends, but we seem to have more ghost stories of the tunnels.

Also near the city it is not uncommon to find abandoned Soviet weaponry and aircraft. Many abandoned facilities from the Soviets, radio transmittors. They were good at secrets. No-one really knows what they was used for. Abandoned villages too. My country is full of this shit.

The city I actually live in has this thing called The Labyrinth. It isn't an actually labyrinth, but rather this large brick square. In the center of the square sit four chairs, and to get to the brick square you have to follow a pathway and it is flanked with statues of angels. The bricks are laid in a labyrinth-like way, though, and they say you have to do them without speaking or you will be cursed. The local nuns from the Catholic church supposedly do the thing ritualistically, with their eyes closed, because God guides them through the maze of brick and into the center. I've only done it once, at night. It's freaking as shit- it's in someone's back yard.

The church has long been suspected of being haunted, and there is a story of a bunch of kids in the late 19th century daring one another to go up into the bell tower and stay the night. The kids were also told to put a nail in one of the beams to prove that he had been there.

Well the story goes that one night a kid went up to the tower and stayed there for the night. Just as dawn was breaking, he hammered a nail into a beam of wood to prove he was there. His buddies found him later, stone dead. Apparently what had happened was that he had nailed his jacket down as well and as he turned to leave, it caught. Thinking he had been grabbed by a ghost, the boy died of fright.

There's also a story of an attempted assassination of Lincoln by two guerrilla confederate snipers in a field.

by this time aunt Maya i may tell you luis father forced me to go there and took lui to a hospital there in the city when i arrived into the farm luis father told me the story and how creepy it was the sound emmited by the horse so by the time we reach into the house i know who was making those sounds evenm after getting into his room i know what was i going to face but it was a lot of worse there, tied to the bed was luis comvulsing, almost jumping out of the bed and it was screaming and laughing frenetically with is eyes out of their place they tried to stop me but the can , as i ws runing down the grass to my truck i ws hearing those screams and y felt terribly frightened about it i was trembling while i was running and stumbling and that burst of laughter have been following me alll the way to my house im just writing these to let you know why im leaving México

I live in a Jupiter, FL (about 30min. N of Palm Beach) and probably the most popular legend is of the historic Jupiter Lighthouse. Different stories and local legends of people walking up/down the staircase (and the lighthouse itself is built on an indian burial ground, almost all of Jupiter was occupied by them and met a brutal end). I have been there on numerous occasions and had not felt anything strange though.
I have had a lot of my friends tell me of their houses being haunted, though. Everything from banging noises in between walls, to them coming home and having *all of their furniture* moved to one side of the room.
Also, there have been rumors of an old, abandoned mental assylum somewhere in what's now J.D. State Park, that is supposed to be occupied by possibly demonic beings. Haven't seen it when I went camping out there, though, thank goodness.

Most of the legends are bout secret Soviet technology, like how there is a whole underground system beneath Moscow Metro. In Pavarov the creepy thing is a radio tower shed with a viscous dog always chained up outside. No-one is ever seen coming or going. But the dog is fed somehow.

Most things are not creepy, just fact like the chessboard killer, or unable to be proven, like theories about Soviets. Although some of these rumoured tunnels were proved some years ago when Rossya hotel was being worked on. These tunnels are still active, as in they still have motion sensers and silent alarms that trigger if you walk through them. I do not want to know what happens if you are caught there. I know the alarms are there because I explored such tunnel once, trying to go sort of beneath the Kremlin to get to this abandoned hotel, which hear is creepy after it burned down once and killed like 40 or 50 people. We reached a writing saying Kremlin ten metres away but we had to leave. The tunnels are real the buildings of Moscow are connected beneath the ground.

There is also Dead Hand. See, most legends people already know about. And I don't really know most others. All I can do is personally confirm the existence of tunnels and abandoned sites which are not as abandoned as they seem.

The best I've got is a claim from one of my neighbors that ghosts were in his house. I live in a rural area and up until the past ten years houses were few and far between. Well on my road this guy built a house and opened up an auto-repair shop in town. He had two step-kids and a smoking hot milf for a wife. One day we noticed the guy was putting his house up for sale. My dad went over there to invite him to a party he was throwing and the guy told my dad some crazy shit. My dad asked why he was selling the house. We had heard he was divorcing his wife, but he told my dad a different story. Apparently him, his wife, and his stepchildren had seen what appeared to be the ghosts of children in the house. They would hear them talking at night and playing around in the hallway. They lived in probably the biggest house on my street, and it seemed like some pretty creepy shit. I remember one time we ran into the guy at a local restaurant once and my dad started making fun of him for seeing ghosts. The guy looked embarrassed as fuck.

I live a couple miles north of a city in California that makes a big deal out of this road Hicks Road. And of course we have the classic lady in white and such.

Then there's... Another one. One everyone knows, but nobody talks about. It's pretty hard to find someone who will actually give you the full story but if you look long enough you can. Haha just typing this is making me kinda nervous, I have to turn all the lights on.

Anyways down to the story. First off a little background on the area I live in- I'm not giving any names, sorry. It's very hilly and the hills are coooovered in trees. I know you're thinking 'Hill people' but it's not that. I wish it were, I always thought it would be cool to have a Hills Have Eyes urban myth

The story goes like this: Thirty years ago there was a really bad fire that burned down a bunch of the trees in the area. It happened at an old teen haunt, an abandoned camp-type place, you know, the place where all the jocks and cheerleaders go to sneak beers and knock boots until the wee hours of the morning. Well anyways, the fire destroyed the forest in that area, a couple miles' radius of burned forest and hillsides. The only road is pretty thin so the authorities had to work inwards to get to the site. By the time they got to the fire's origin there was only one guy still alive, who had hidden in the campsite's pool. He immediately copped to the fire (Or, so the story goes) and other than that all the officers that took him in could get out of him was one phrase- "I told them not to touch it".

pt. 2 Well since then the place got a hell of a reputation, especially since nobody knows what the fuck the guy was talking about- The official story is that the guy's friends were doing some heavy drugs, and the guy took the blame out of guilt over being the only survivor. He was sentenced to be executed but the guards found him in his cell clawing open his arms and the guy bled to death. He went out laughing, supposedly. Depending on who you get to tell you the story he either told the guards "I told them not to touch it" Or just laughed himself to death, but either way it's a little eerie.

The forest never grew back at the origin of the fire. Nothing grows there anymore. The radius of the fire, all the trees never grow leaves anymore. They just grow denser and denser branches and such until you reach the campsite, and then it's like a ring of open ground- The campsite itself is blocked off by a shitty gate that is really easily hopped or driven around if you have a car you don't really care about getting dirty. It's still a pretty popular spot for guys to take girls they want to get at. They sneak in to look at the corpses left over from the fire, the ones that were flash-burned when the guy first set the fire, pompeii-status. Nothing really loosens belt buckles like a cheap scare around here. We've got all the classics, like I said- People claim orbs, and ladies in white, and ghosts of the people who died- But the most reported and the most believable one is that someone or another saw a charred corpse on it's knees with it's hands in a praying position in the forest around the site. Police investigated after the first report and found a damp spot on the ground but couldn't identify whatever liquid it had been. They found a bunch of flakes of charred skin and muscle and stuff though.

Pt. 3 Now the only reason I believe it... Well me and a buddy of mine went down there a week ago to check it out. We found a burnt corpse all right. Damn near scared the shit out of us, because we left the car to check the area out and when we got back the thing was 'praying' in front of our back bumper. We immediately started calling around for one of our buddies. Somebody must have been pranking us. But it was there. We had to get in the car and drive forward around the gate into the camp to avoid hitting it.

Pt. 4 When we got back into camp shit really got weird. There were a few corpses around, but some of them were sitting in that creepy ass prayer pose. Then, further into the camp, where the fire started, were a bunch of corpses that looked like they were crowded around something. My buddy stopped the car and we Reauchambeau'd to see who would check it out, and I lost. We should have just left. Blown through the corpse in the road and just left. I've been having nightmares because of what I saw. I got out of the car and wove between the corpses, which were all cowering away from whatever was at the fire's origin.

I got to the middle and sitting in the ground like a fucking dinosaur fossil was this giant skull. A human skull. It had sharp teeth and one of it's hands was just at the surface of the ground. It's head was conical and swept back to like a dome at the top, like one of those birth defects you read about in Ripley's, only I could probably have fit a fist into it's eye sockets without touching the inside. I got really, really cold, like when you're looking at something you know you're not supposed to see. The wind started blowing and the trees started scraping against each other and it sounded like rattling breathing.

I was already just about pissing myself when I could have sworn I heard the corpse next to me moan. I jumped like a ballistic missile and sprinted back to the car. I dove into the backseat on the driver's side closest to me and told my buddy to get us the FUCK out of there. He obliged; I guess he could hear the wind, because it sounded like the corpses were fucking moaning. When we got back to the main road and drove around the gate the corpse that was blocking us was gone. My buddy told me he felt like he was gonna shit himself and I told him that he didn't even know the half of it. I didn't tell him about the skull though. I told my mom and that's it. I got the fuck out of there and I am not going back. When I got home I found a few ashes on my pant leg and found out that I had a hand bruise on my ankle. You can bet I didn't fucking sleep that night. It's scary as fuck because all I can think about now- The one thing I want to do- Is go back. I don't want to fuck with the corpses or anything. I just want to see that skull again. I wanna see... I wanna see if I can just touch it.

I've posted about this before, but there's always some interest in it...

I work at my college's library, in Special Collections. In that section, there are exactly 137 copies of a book called "The Complete History of Whittier, California". It was written by the son of one of the first settlers in the area. However, it was only written in 1904, and the town was founded in 1887. The book covers not only this period, but the era of Mexican and even Spanish rule, decades before white people came here. It extends to record the oral legends of the local Chumash people. Supposedly, the cause to every creepy going-on in this town can be found somewhere in this book.

Of particular note is "The Devil's House", the Chumash name for the local canyon.

I live near Blood's Point.

The legend is that a while back some kind of accident happened where a bus full of children died on a bridge that is located on Blood's point.

It is said that if you stop your car in the middle of the bridge and leave it in neutral that your car will roll to safety on the other side.
It is said that it is the children of the bus accident trying to roll you to safety.
People have reported having small handprints along the side and back of their car.

Others who have gotten scared and ran from the car have been reported to see small orbs of light around the area and children's laughing.

At approximately 11.00 am on Wednesday, 6 April 1966, a class of students and a teacher from Westall High School (now Westall Secondary College) were just completing sports on the main oval when an object, described as being a grey saucer-shaped craft with a slight purple hue and being about twice the size of a family car, was alleged to have been seen. According to witnesses the object was descending and then crossed and overflew the high school's south-west corner, going in a south-easterly direction, before disappearing from sight as it descended behind a stand of trees and into a paddock at The Grange in front of the Westall State School (primary students). After a short period (approximately 20 minutes) the object - with witnesses now numbering over 200 - then climbed at speed and departed towards the north-west. As the object gained altitude some accounts describe it as having been pursued from the scene by five unidentified aircraft which circled the object

where i live, we have 2 haunted bridges, relatively close together. not sure on the story of 1 of them, but i know if you sit on the middle in a car you'll end up with fingerprints and hand prints all over the car and hear a lot of weird noises. we walked it and my friend got his shirt pulled. or so he claimed. the skull made of finger prints on the windshield was hard to explain. the other bridge is called the lost bridge. and the legend goes that some bus accident happened on it. and if you go there at exactly midnight, and stop at the bottom, turn lights off, and put car in neutral, that you will be pushed up the bridge. its on a slope so you have to park on the end where you have to go up hill for it to really mean anything. we did it and it worked a little. driver freaked out before we got full length of bridge. was pretty cool. freaky noises though.

The only real legend-esque story around where I live now is the haunted Toys 'R Us. Apparently the store is located where this mentally retarded farmer used to live. But one day, he fell inside his well, or accidentally hit his own leg with an axe and couldn't get back in time to get help (it changes from who I hear it from). Anyways in the store, toys are always slapped down from the shelves, and girls that go into the store with long blonde or brown hair sometimes feel something playing with their hair.

Apparently there's a high school that's haunted too around the area, but I don't know much about it.

Those two stories weren't that interesting, but back in my father's village in China, there was a spot we were never supposed to go, especially at night. I never got the full story, but the basic gist was that demons would take on the appearance of your parents and steal you away to the underworld.

I've got a bit of a similar story OP. In sugarhouse, Utah, there's a pretty large neighborhood built on a forest-y type area. Supposedly, a large, still standing wooded area known as "hobbitville" exists and is widely believed by most high schoolers across to be a community where midgets live together. Smack dab in the center of Shanghai, there's a large silver pillar with golden dragons all over it that's supporting part of an overpass. The story goes that when they were putting in the supports, that particular one wouldn't go in no matter what. So they hired a monk who told them to paint the pillar silver with golden dragons all over.

They did that, and the beam ended up going in easily. So they asked the monk what had happened. The monk refused to answer for a long time, until he finally cracked and said that there was a dragon sleeping in the center of Shanghai who was preventing the beam from going in deep enough. By making the beam silver with gold dragons, they were fooling the dragon into thinking the pillar was a part of them, which allowed the pillar to enter its home.

Shortly after revealing the reasoning, the monk died of mysterious circumstances.
And this one isn't that much of a legend, but my grandmother's old house had this one man living on an upper floor. Apparently he once had a beautiful daughter who committed suicide during the Communist Regime, and this drove him insane. Sometimes in the middle of the night I would wake up and hear him stomping his feet and yelling some unintelligible somethings before stopping. There was this huge brown stain on my grandma's ceiling above where I assume his room was. In all my years living/visiting there, I only saw the man once. He was tall (and not just for an Asian), skinny as hell with shock white, wispy hair that frizzled everywhere, standing straight out like you see in cartoons after something scares a character. He was walking down the stairs and I saw him from behind. That was the only time I've ever seen or heard him exit out of the room. Ever.

I live in Americus, Ga. It's pretty much right down the road from Andersonville. THE Andersonville Civil War prison. As such there's all kinds of freaky shit that goes down around the rural areas.

Three-Bridges Road: Unrelated to the prison, and on opposite ends of the county, is an old dirt road that has three bridges. The road is really wide, and as such the first of the bridges (also the largest/longest) has a lot of room. Several cars could pass by eachother at the same time easily.

Story has it some black fellas kidnapped a young white girl and brutally raped her, then murdered her and threw her off the bridge. If you do some googling you can find the story about the case fairly easily.

As far as the supernatural goes, if you're on the bridge from the hours of 2:30-4:30 AM, and you shut your car off and put the keys on the roof and walk to the edge of the bridge, presumably like her murderers, you will be treated to the ghost of the girl rising from the depths to drag you off the edge. And you DON'T want her to reach you.

What's really eerie about it is there have been a handful of people found dead at the bottom with their vehicles in said state.

If you take hwy 280 out of Americus going towards Cordele, Ga, there is a road called Lamar that is a short cut to the river/Lake Blackshear.

Its an old rural road, and you pass through lots of farmland. About half way from Americus to the river you will come to a four way stop. You take a right, you come out in Leslie. Take a left, you circle back around through some neighborhoods back into Ame. Straight away though there is a very nice house on the right side of the road. 1800s old white farmhouse. MILES of white picket fencing. The house is abandoned, though the same family has owned it for generations and its well taken care of. They moved to NYC.

If you drive past the house you'll see a strange cement block... roughly coffin size... thats just jutting out of the side of the ground. Like it's a little hill and the top of the hill is field. Well the side of the hill has a cement box sticking out. Idk how else to describe it.

You can faintly make out some engravings on the exposed top, but nobody is really sure what the lady who lies inside is named. There is a hole on one side, and you can look in to find her skull literally staring right at you.

It looks like she was buried in there alive and shot through the hole. We shined a light into the hole and it looks like she was shot in the face with a small caliber bullet.

Some nights they say if you drive by at the right time, and under the right conditions, you'll find yourself seeing her ghost in the mist that gathers around the area, just floating around the grave.

Not really that scary, but paranormal nonetheless.

You have to go down a lot of dirt roads to get the the place. It's very old, and decrepit, but still standing. Spray paint adorns every nook and cranny. Dead animals are literally EVERYWHERE like as soon as you get onto the property.

Inside the interior is ruined. At the front center, there is a pentagram etched into the floor. It's deeply embedded into the wood, and it looks as if just the outline has been stained a very dark red. Not saying its blood or anything...

Oh, wait. Yeah. I am.

The Sheriffs have regularly barricaded the building after some guys found brutally mutilated animals like kidnapped pets and such inside.

Somebody has been using it to torture animals and do all sorts of naughty things.

The cops have not tried to do anything about it very recently as there seems to be no end to the vandalism and ritual animal slaughterings :(

There are a lot of weird legends about this strip of road, a main one being the only house in the middle of the road is cannibal albinos, but that's bullshit. The road is creepy to begin with. This road is haunted I can tell you that much. The railroad tracks along the road are abandoned, but you can hear train noises from them. Oh and another legend is back in the early 1900s a man was killed by the train while walking his dog along the tracks. Well around 3-4am one night going down this road with 4 other people we decided to park infront of the tracks and sit there for a couple minutes. Well what do you know, this girl points and goes does anyone see that... We all shat our pants and gtfo of there. Everyone except for one kid saw it, a man in a trench coat and hat walking his dog around 4 am in the morning...... Ever since I saw that I believe ghosts exist

but my town has some stories. I live in the midwest and I've heard the lady in white running along with my girlfriends dad as he drove down a dirt road blah blah blah, my ex girlfriend said her and her brothers and sisters saw eyes in their walls staring at them...creepy shit.
there is a story of gitchie manitou (a state park) where 5 teenagers went for a camping trip. They got to the cabin (this was in the 70's) and found a drug deal going on. Well the dealers killed them, cut off their heads and threw their bodies in the river that goes through the park. Their heads, supposedly, were never found. My buddy's grandma claims to remember reading it in the paper. The cabins still there, it's run down and pretty much the only thing that's intact is the fireplace/wall around the fireplace and a few beams that are connected to it.

there's a house near some woods by mine, apparantly it used to be inhabited by an old woman, her sight had completely gone by now but she still lived there alone, just her and her dog. so one night after getting home from whatever it is that old blind people do when they go out. she made something to eat and sat on her favourite armchair and just, erm, rested her eyes. she was woken up by two things, the first a constant drip, drip, drip sound, but she didnt think much of it, probably the pipes. the other thing that woke her up was her dog, just licking her hand that was hanging over the chair, letting out low sporadic whines. the drip turned almost into a trickle, and all the while her dog kept licking her hand, a lot more enthusiastically than normal. it was late but she decided to call her friend to come and check out the drip, her dog had a strange reaction to her being on the phone though, barking and growling violently. it calmed down afterwards though, returning to enthusiastically lick her hands, constantly. he stopped and disappeared about 5 minutes before the old womans visitor arrived, but when she answerd the door she was greeted with a blood curdling scream. what her friend saw was the mutilated body of a dog hanging from the ceiling, with the drip, drip drip of its blood hitting the floor, and written on the wall in a dark fleshy substance were the words;

Something odd happened to my friend a few years ago in Cecil County, Maryland.

Him (1) and another (2) were walking down the road at night just because they were bored and literally had nothing better to do. As they are beginning to approach this small bridge, the other friend (2) suddenly stops moving and stares straight ahead. Friend 1 looks at where hes staring and they both are seeing a tall woman dressed in a white dress looking off the edge of the bridge. She noticed them, turned her head quickly and screamed bloody murder, then walked around the other side of the bridge and down to the water. They both took off running. The next day they went down to some of the houses right by the bridge and asked if the heard any screaming last night everyone in each of the three houses said yeah.

I believe entirely this story is correct because they are some of the most honest people I know and another friend had actually went over after they returned home and was with them when they asked their neighbors. He confirms what friends 1 and 2 say about the neighbors hearing.

1. La Lechusa -- an old hag/witch turns herself into a night bird or owl...she'll sit outside your house at night making a distinct chirping sound. Legend says to kill her or remove the curse you take a rope and make a series of knots and she'll drop dead. supposedly one of my great uncles was harassed by one of these things while walking home one night.

2. we have an old abandoned cemetery out in the boonies; mom used to tell me when she was a kid there was talk about giant serpents that lived in the cemetery. i've been there, doubt it's true but it's still a creepy place.

3. when i was in high school, there was a big thing that happened across the river (Mexico) in some seedy bar. Apparently one night, satan showed up in the bar and there was actually a write up in the local paper, people claiming to have seen a man with hooved feet who killed someone else there. the bar closed down not long after this if I remember correctly.

4. Brinkley mansion, once owned by dr. brinkley who was a notorious quack/radio man in the 30's. rumors that there are tunnels under his home that go over to mexico, and that the house is haunted; people claim to have seen ghosts and creepy shit.

5. the other usual suspects-- la llorona/crying lady and also heard the one about parking your car on railroad tracks, happening in san antonio

There are some woods near here called Clapham woods, this is on/near the southdowns which are a network of hills on the south coast of england.
In the 70's two or three people went missing and one or two of the bodies was found in the clapham area. The police found nothing and people were shitting bricks so some guy decided to post an advert telling people to come to him if they have any information about the murders, he was doing his own amateur investigation.
Someone called him up and told him to meet at the chesnuts which is part of clapham woods. Dude goes there and the caller speaks to him from the bushes so he can't be seen, tells this guy if he keeps looking he's gonna end up dead because the friends of hecate operate in these woods and powerful people are in the group. Say they did the murders and would be in the woods for ten more years. Basically these guys are some sort of occult group but more about that in the next post.
Guy keeps investigating and someone rams his motorbike with their car, pulls a gun on him in the fucking main street of the town telling him to drop it. (not many people have guns in england, shit like that never happens, especially in Worthing because it just boring as fuck, big town but we have like 4 or 5 times as many old peoples homes over nightclubs, tons of graveyards, funeral places and shit)
The guy stopped investigating but for a long time, maybe still, he would go around with a camera and try to film the Hecate crew doing rituals and stuff.

It's a long and winding road that at one time was a dirt trail/path that lead from one settlement to another. During the civil war, Sarah/Sara Jane was supposedly (with her husband) a spy. Stories vary on who she was spying for. Anyhow, she and her husband decided to lift a ton of war-bonds, and were going to sell them off. Her husband was killed, and she was running with the war bonds, chased by troops. Her carriage hit a bump on a bridge and her baby fell from the carriage into the river. Fearful for her life, she kept running. The baby drowned in the river, and Sarah Jane was caught just up the road and hung for a spy. She supposedly now haunts the road, forever doomed to search for the baby she allowed to drown.

The road itself is really spooky. Surrounded by woods, no lighting, dark and winding. Several kids over the years have died on the road, as it's almost a rite of passage to speed down the road with your lights off, looking for Sarah Jane.

I forget exactly when, but I'm fairly certain me and my buddy were driving back to Albuquerque from Las Cruces for Thanksgiving break. It was late at night, somewhere around 11 or 12, and we're just casually listening to music coming North on I-25.

I'm sort of drifting in and out of sleep when suddenly my buddy slams my shoulder and screams "Jesus fucking christ dude, look!" and points out my window. As I turn to look there's a fucking horse with deep blue eyes right outside the fucking window, somehow keeping pace with our car. I jump back and bump into my friend causing him to swerve a little bit.

After the initial panic I look at the speedometer and we're going a hundred fucking miles per hour. There's no fucking way a horse could possibly keep up with us at that speed. My friend is rambling on like "what the fuck do we do dude what the fuck do we do?" and I just say "fucking gun it, man!"

We get up to 120 MPH and this fucking horse still catches up with us, just staring as us through the window with those fucking blue eyes. It's at this point that the fucking horse throws itself into the side of the car and sends us swerving violently across the road, and my friend has to brake or risk losing complete control of the car.

It pulls out what I can only assume was a stone and chucks it right at us, leaving a crack in our windshield.

All of a sudden I see light coming from the opposite side of the road. The horse thing turns around to look at the car then takes off at ridiculous speed in the opposite direction. As I watch it bolt off into the darkness I try desperately to rouse my friend from his hysteria telling him "it's gone! we have to get out of here!" It took him a few minutes but he finally comes to, takes a long, slow look around the exterior of the car, then starts to drive again. We didn't say a word for the rest of the ride and every time I've ever tried to bring the event up he quickly changes the subject.

I worked for a while in a part of town nearer the clapham woods and spoke to several people who have seen weird shit in the woods and/or live by them. The friends of hecate said they would be there for 10 years but as that was said in the 70’s that means they left in the 80’s, 30 years or so ago. They either came back or another group has started using the area.
Guy I worked with would sometimes set up raves in the woods, quite a big spontaneous outdoor rave scene in this part of the country. People will get texts like an hour or two before a rave happens so its not likely to be shut down by police until the morning when everyone going home and shit anyway. This guy went exploring during one of the raves he was involved with and saw them all in hoods holding candles, shit bricks. He’s also seen tons of spoons hanging from the trees tied with string and also chairs in the trees. Once found an upright burning tree.
Other guy I worked with told me that dogs have been shot with LONGBOWS and also hooded weirdos have been seen with medieval swords doing rituals. Seems like these people make a regular thing of fucking around in these woods.
There are two rings on the southdowns near here, chanctonbury ring and cissbury ring. Cissbury is where the wiccans go to do whatever and apparently chanctonbury is where the badasses go. Cissbury was an iron age fort and had a ton of flint mines. The edge of the fort still remains but it just looks like a big earth ring that you can walk up. These sites have been important for thousands of years so I’m guessing this has something to do with why all the funky people use it for magic.
Plenty fucked up paranormal shit happens here too, smoke that takes animal shapes, U.F.O’s, all sorts of crazy shit. I’ve personally been told of openings in mid-air producing spectral figures. You can actually find detailed accounts on the net and I’ve heard the threatened investigator released a book on the whole subject.

So instead of doing a copy/paste from a website, I'll just tell you about some crazy shit I've experienced there, first hand.
The place is called Pleasant Ridge Cemetery. Also, affectionately known as, The 13 Steps (because there is a stairway leading up to the cemetery on the hill, and there are...you guessed it! 13 steps!)
The first time I ever went, was with a few guys who called themselves "magicians'', as in, they could see the future through certain divination practices, they had spirit guides, and one even claimed he could talk to the dead. I really took a liking to that guy, we'll call him Josh.
Josh taught me a lot about magic. Paganism. Wicca. Whateverthefuckyoucallit. I call it realizing one's full potential.
Anyway, so that night I went with Josh and 2 of his friends. Normally one would park in the parking lot and walk up the stairs to the area they had the graves, but Josh's weird, twin brother friends insisted we take the back way (the cemetery is connected to a park, by a horse back riding trail...It's heavily wooded and there's a crazy looking swamp). Since we were taking the back way, we needed some sort of light source to make it through the woods. Of course, the weird twins insisted on black candles.

We made our way to the path, and the path splits off a lot, and takes you to other parts of the park (this park is HUGE), so not knowing your way around, and only having candles for light is kind of a stupid idea. But we some how made it, encountering absolutely nothing out of the ordinary at that point.

We climbed the fence, and Josh kept close to me, telling me stories of how each person supposedly died.

It was a full moon and the cemetery was very well lit. So well lit, that this one grave glowed, really bright. I was instantly attracted to it, and sat down on the grave and just kind of took it all in. The grave I was sitting on belonged to a little boy, named Thomas, who had died when he was only a year or two old. He buried right next to his parents, who had a much nicer gravestone than him.

Josh told me some bullshit story about how the family died, and we suddenly realized the twins were missing. A few seconds later they came sauntering out of the woods, talking about how their spirits guides were telling them to get out of there, so they started back through the wooded path.

Josh and I stayed. We sat at the top of the steps, and I kept staring at Thomas' grave. Suddenly we started seeing a bunch of fireflies...But they weren't yellow. They were blue, and purple, and pink. Josh swears they were faeries. I swear our minds were playing tricks on us, but wtf do I know? A week earlier I had seen this guy make it rain, out of nowhere, on a totally cloudless day.

Finally we headed back to the path, and found the twins by the swamp, waiting for us. Nothing too out of the ordinary that trip, but I couldn't get Thomas' grave out of my head. For some reason that bright white gravestone was burned into my mind.

I went back with some friends, periodically over the next few months. I took a lot of pictures during that time, some of which people would call "ghostly". Especially around Thomas' grave. There would always be "orbs" and weird mist. (I still have these pictures somewhere around here...I could probably dig them out of a box and scan and upload for proof). I felt a weird connection with Thomas, for some reason. Maybe I just felt so horrible that it was the youngest dead body buried there. Or maybe it was the way it glowed so much brighter than all the other graves, despite how old and dirty it was (the kid died in 1881, iirc, so that gives you and idea of how fucked up the grave looked by 2001).
Another time i went with some friends, during the day. Cheri's car died as soon as she put it in park. It was a brand new Jeep. i don't know if Jeep makes quality vehicles or not, but a lot of people have reported their cars dying once the enter the parkinglot, and not being able to start it up when they want to leave.

Once you get into the cemetery, there are a lot of graves, but just to the right is a grassy area, I assumed is reserved for future dead bodies.
I noticed, in that bare, grassy area, that there was a patch of grass darker than the rest. The darker grass formed a pentagram. So perfect. It's not like the grass was burned or anything. It was like a different color of the same kind of grass was growing in the shape of a pentagram. I took pictures of it, and went back every few days or so to keep taking pictures of it. The pentagram eventually moves it way into the woods, oddly enough. Yes. i have pictures of this, somewhere, too.
There had been supposed reports from my friends of hooded people going in and out of the woods, doing some kind of ritual, but i know that had to be bullshit, unless it was people like Josh and the Twins.

About 40 minutes away from my house is the dent school house. Not sure of how local that is considering its now ranked as one of the best haunted houses in the US.

In the 1920s kids started disappearing from the best elementary school in the district, the dent school house. People wrote it off as kids running away. This takes a break in the 30s but then kids start to disappear in the 40s again. For all the time this was happening it was only Dent kids. Eventually an angry mob broke into the school after a school-run investigation turned up nothing. The mob discovered what could be described as a dungeon in the basement, with coal shoots stuffed with kids bodies and a bunch o other crazy shit. They assumed it was Charlie the janitor because he was the only one who used these rooms and disappeared after they discovered it.

Now some guy turned it into a haunted house... wut

I work as a security guard in a prison for immigrants who are about to be deported in The Netherlands. Before it was used as such a facility it was an asylum. There were 2 reported deaths there, one of them was a man stabbed in the courtyard at daylight and another one was a woman who hung herself in the west wing hallway at exactly 3 AM.

I'm always working nightshifts, I was never afraid of anything. The only reports I heard were about doors making noises in that hallway etc. My co-workers believe these stories. So one night, being the sceptic that I am, I took them to the west wing hallway and started moving doors randomly, all the doors were suddenly making sounds because of the wind generated by the door I was opening and closing, so I debunked the ghost story, I thought...

As I said I'm a sceptic, atleast I think I am. Because one night, I was working on my own. And excactly 3 AM I was doing a routine check round the building, when I walked past the west wing hallway... I wasn't going in the hallway I just walked by, but in the corner of my sight a saw a figure at the other end of the hallway. Instincively I walked back and looked again. I saw nothing.

The suburb I grew up in doesn't have an individually regarded legend (that I'm aware of, anyway), but in a way has a collective consciousness of personal anecdotal experiences in some specific areas around the town; yet, it's oddly never really talked about on any public scale - it always seems to come up in stoned one on ones at midgnight and what not. But I've always been shocked at how many individual friends I've had (individual as in not friends with each other, different cliques, etc) have shared in things I've experienced throughout my childhood here.

I've wanted to write about these a lot, but I don't have enough space in this comment, or the willpower to get it out properly at the moment, but I'll likely do some writing on them in the next few days if this thread is still alive. There is a place I've been meaning to make a return trip to in particular, and will be filming the trip.

The weirdest thing is that I didn't even really saw anything, I just saw fear. Wich is weird. This is a weird storry, I'm sorry for sharing. You probably think I'm just a pussy with bad english, but I really want someone to understand what that moment felt like or something. I don't know.

Bottom line is, I haven't been working there ever since, I quit my job. That's how deep this experience went for me.

There is the fact that you were already made susceptible to the idea having been exposed, I'm sure, to many of your co-workers stories. Coupled with the time of night and location it's entirely reasonable for you to experience fear and even see things as a result.

I'm actually open to the idea of the paranormal, though I'm skeptical of many claims and have never experienced more than "feelings" and infectious hysteria.

My town has got some creepy stories. There is this one about some cult that got started in the 1800's. Apparently their leader was a sea captain that had spent some time on the ocean. Rumor has it that he had reached the Polynesian Islands and picked up some local religion. Something about worshipping fish. But anyways, he brought it back to my town and started up the cult. At this point in time people started missing, and everyone assumed they were used in the cult's rituals. Then a few years later a horrible disease killed a bunch of people and the cult disappeared. Nobody knows whether they are still alive or if they never existed.

I'm not sure if you can call it a "local legend", but my husband is in the Air Force and he works on KC-135 stratotankers (basically huge fuel jets). And there is one plane that is said to be haunted by two people who have died on it. People hear strange noises, groaning, parts will unhinge themselves and fall off, power outages, etc. I'm hoping that the next time it comes in to the hanger to be fixed he'll take me to check it out.

There's an underground complex of tunnels under the old Kalemegdan fort from the Roman times. Nobody has ever explored them, I mean literally nobody. The first few hundred meters are charted, but nothing besides that. Nobody knows how far they go. The labyrinth entry point is a 100m deep well, which has a staircase leading down to it and the labyrinth.

Everything from people smugglers, cults, communities of people and asylum escapees have been suspected of living there.

One of my favorites is The Gray Man.

Years ago, there was supposedly a man who died on the beach in Hilton Head, SC when he was stranded outside during a hurricane or storm of some kind. Nowadays, if you see a man in a gray suit walking on the beach later in the day, it's an omen that a storm is coming soon. My grandfather says he saw him just a few days before Hurricane Hugo completely fucked us over.

If you travel down the right one you should end up in a clearing in the woods with 1 big tombstone and three little headstones. The name on the large one is Kate Blood. Rumor has it she decided to practice dark magic, and for some reason she snapped and killed her 3 children. She was buried in the late 1800's. The thing is though, her tombstone is in great shape for the age it is in compared to the other tombstones from the 1900's in the area.

There is a road near my house called Munger road, supposedly some children in a school bus got hit by train when it stalled on tracks. Some older kids got out to try and push, didn't work they got out to push too late. So now apparently, if you park your car on the tracks and put baby powder on rear bumper, tiny hand prints will appear. Even made a movie about it, but it was shit.

There is an old canal in the town where I live. There are some old steps called the "bloody steps". In 1839 a woman named Christina Collins was raped and murdered by three drunken bargemen on her way to London to join her husband. Her body was found in the canal on June 17th 1839 and she was carried up the infamous "bloody steps" and into an inn. And I have one more. The Fox Theater in Spokane is rumored to be haunted. Something about old performers still hang out along with an old janitor or something. I had to do a shadow there for a school project over a month's period and it wasn't really that creepy. The only part of the place that terrified me was the "Crow's Nest" or whatever they called the area above the stage. To the audience, it's a beautiful set of lights and mirrors and stuff but behind it is where things like microphones and speakers and stuff hide. The area is nothing more than a bunch of planks and according to the people there it's pretty much the same as it's been since the 20's. Creepy as shit.

Has a water tower where a girl hanged her self,a boy who drowned to death in the community indoor pool, and a little girl drowned as well, but at beach that's really secluded.

I grew up in Whitewater, WI, cheesily referred to as the "Second Salem". This is because of old rumors about the Morris Pratt Institute which was built around 1890 (The only thing remotely interesting about the place), which was apparently a school based on the study of spiritualism, contacting the dead, and some other kinds of psychic phenomena shit. This school was torn down depression era, so many of the rumors about witches and cults and whatnot became attached to UW-W in later years.

Supposedly there was a book of the dead/necronomicon/ whatever you want to call it kept at UW-W. Standard "evil spellbook", nobody has ever seen it, but tin foil hat types use this as evidence of a cover-up. There's also the rumor that the few kids who did see it have all committed suicide, but nobody ever knows the names of these people.

The only thing I find interesting is that when the town first sprang up, all roads in/out required passing over moving water, which is frequently a way to repell the dead/vampires/ pick your monster. Apparently that concept is old as hell.

People also mention the old water tower, with the 13" fence that has the inward pointing spikes. I scaled the fence once with the help of some friends, the door to the water tower was welded shut, so I have no idea what's actually in there.

The three of the cemeteries make a triangle, but when you bring up any three points can make a triangle the townies look at you like -YOU'RE- the one who's completely retarded.

The most spooky part of this whole place? There was to be a movie called "Witches of Whitewater", but IT DIED

I live near the Cherokee reservation in Western North Carolina. There are stories of what are called "the little people". The natives are really reluctant to talk about them. They're little tricksters, though I'm not sure what you'd actually refer to them as. They can tell if you talk about them. And it's generally a bad idea to do so, seeing as you don't want their attention.

There's this church called Tilly Bend about an hour from my house down this dirt road that apparently they hung a witch named Pauly Long back in the day. The tree they hung people from is still standing and they say you can see lights moving around in the graveyard on certain nights. I've never been, but my friends say it's really boring because they try to ignore the whole reputation they get as haunted and focus on country music.
My dorm has a pretty creepy past though. It was originally an old folks home. "legend has it" a lot of the patients were abused, some even died (from the abuse, old age non-withstanding). The home was shut down and bought up by NKU for some ridiculously low price. I'm not one of those faggots who wants to see ghosts or claim to, but I won't lie, certain areas are just really unnerving if you're alone. The laundry room and basement in particular.

I've seen this one myself, and it seems to be completely relegated to the area where I live (the country) as people from nearby towns have no fucking clue what we're talking about. Everyone of my neighbors and fellow country bumpkins have stories about it.

When I saw it, I was pulling out of my driveway, this was maybe four years ago. I caught a pair of eyes in my headlights and thought maybe a cat was sitting on my neighbors fence. Then the eyes dipped down and I saw what looked like a gigantic dog running in front of me. I sat there and stared off at the direction it went for a bit before pulling out and continuing on.

I went down the road to the three way intersection and as I pulled up I caught another glimpse of it standing directly in front of my headlights. It was on it's hindlegs and it looked like a goddamned werewolf.

I kept this story a secret for an entire year before drunkenly regaling my friends and finding out that they too had seen something like that as well. Turns out it's a well known legend around here.

Ever since I've been deathly fucking afraid of looking out my driver side window and seeing the thing running alongside me while I drive.

Fucking terrifying.

You know how down in Southern California they've got wind power? I'm sure you've seen them, they show up as an accompanying picture every time they talk about wind power.

They're located in this huge valley that acts as a perfect wind tunnel. Thing is, back before they decided to purpose the area to harness the wind, it was a massive cactus field. If you stood in the center of it, you wouldn't be able to see the end. Just cacti for as far as the eye could see.

Not just normal cacti either, the kind that have flowers than only bloom in the moonlight.

Apparently the local Native American tribes used to send young men into these fields to retrieve fruit as a sort of rite of passage or something. Several of them never really came back. The warning went that if you couldn't find your way back out of the field by sunrise, you never would.

The locals in the area don't to go there at night. Repairmen refuse to work on the windmills past sundown. There used to be several local news reports about people on the I-10 who broke down in the area and went missing. Just their cars were left, broken down on the side of the highway. After awhile they just didn't bother reporting it anymore.

If you ever find yourself driving through Coachella at night, do yourself a favor and don't stop to look at the wind farm. Don't stop for anything, just keep driving.

I don't know what's there and I don't want to.

It's a pretty chilling place, back in my senior year, me and some buddies went to the Goatman's Bridge on our senior year, and I must say it was the most chilling experience I have ever had. Nothing paranormal really happened, but the place was fucking creepy, and it was almost depressing. The four of us went back to our car after about 30 minutes of sitting on the bridge trying to "communicate" with the goatman (to no prevail), and we just felt depressed as fuck. We just had a silent ride back home... Note that we didn't discuss anything whilst on the bridge. Just occasional, "Are you here with us?" and "How did you die" kinda shit.

Dude, you're from Rockford? I've never been out to Blood's Point myself, but I have some friends who went out there and "investigated" it. I don't think they did the gravity hill thing, but they drove up and down the road and went into the cemetery around there. I don't think anything interesting happened though.

Live in southeast kansas
less than ten miles away is a town called Pitcher, Oklahoma. Pitcher was only recently abandoned. (I'm 20 and i had a bunch of childhood friends that lived there before everyone left) The town is abandoned due to massive amounts of lead in the water and soil. I've been out exploring it and it seriously looks like a town out of fallout, very post-apocalyptic looking.
There have been legends about the town since even before it was abandoned. The town is surrounded by huge chat piles (piles of sand and gravel mined out of the earth. When i say huge, i mean fuck huge. There are literally hundred foot cliffs and mountain ranges made of grey gravel) Supposedly in the miles and miles of Chats there is a cult that practices animal and human sacrifices. I even asked by parents and apparently in this area it is pretty much taboo to venture into the Pitcher chats.

There are a group of people we refer to as "The Watchers" This was a camp story at Boy Scout camp, but it was one that seem plausible. Apparently the woods of the Santa Cruz mountains are inhabited by a bunch of inbreed squatters who started living off the land in the 1920s, and supposedly they would occasionally come to the camp and stare at you.

I had never seen one myself, but all of the camp staff swore they had. What I did see is areas that had been lived in, and some rocks that had been used for knapping far from the camp, so there is probably someone living in those woods.

The apartment I live in now is fairly large 1300 square foot 2 bedroom, but it is cheaper than my old studio apartment just a mile or two away. When I was coming to move in the apartment management would not let me see the actual apartment and instead took me to a Demo apartment. Also they required me to wait quite a few weeks before moving in. Also they told me that the apartment is unrenovated and thus everything is still from when it was first built in the late 70s and thats why its cheaper.

This did not seem strange at first, but once I moved in I find that this particular apartment has been uninhabited for over 3 years. Also it is the only unrenovated one in the entire complex. The first time the maintenance man came in he shivered and muttered something weird in his eastern european native language (im still not sure where he is from exactly) then he looked at me and just said he was sorry then he left. He never will enter the apartment on wednesdays even though i see him working on other units in the same building.

On halloween a strange snow globe appeared on my mantle with a black cat sitting on a pumpkin.

My room is connected by a glass door to a sunroom that looks to have been originally designed as a porch. The knob on this glass door on more than one occasion has violently turned as if someone is frantically trying to get into a locked door though since the door is glass and unlocked I can see that no one is turning the knob and if they were they should be able to open it.

Both toilets will flush themselves at random hours of the night and shortly after the sink will turn on for a few seconds then back off.

Many guests that I have had over will ask me about why I got up in the middle of the night and put my hand on their head. Most do not believe me when I tell them I never left my room. Until one heard me snoring in my room while the mystery person was standing by them.

The electricity in the place is very odd sometimes light bulbs appear to burn out but if you turn them off and back on they work also sometimes the switches make an odd sizzling sound and even shock me when I turn them on.

Strangest of all when I was moving in I set up a plastic storage shelf unit and after I walked away it was thrown across the room and slammed against the wall with a fair bit of force.

Terrified we stop at a gas station for smokes. The clerk mentions that we look like we have just seen the dog. we tell her how many times we have looked and seen nothing. She tells us that the story is the dog is the spirit of a slave hunting dog first time we see it is the first time we brought a black guy with us.

So my primary school had a Eucalyptus tree just outside of the playground area. On it was an arch shaped carving which had numbers carved into it. These numbers were dates. One was 1994 ( I can't remember exactly) and the other was 1999, the year it was chopped down. There is meant to be some story to go with it of a Kookaburra spirit being linked with the tree and and it couldn't be removed with the others when the playground was being constructed in 1994. You could see this because a path runs directly into a fence that blocks off the area with the tree. Aboriginals said it could be removed in the last year of the millennium and they carved the dates into it. The arch carving had always been heir though and was meant to be a door or something for the spirit.

Apparently there's a gravity hill here that I never knew about until I looked up several that I knew about previously in California. I'll copy and paste the story behind it that I found upon discovering it:

I actually knew about the slaughterhouse and the White Witch, but never heard about the Gravity Hill. I'll have to go out there with my brother at some point, do the powder trick, and maybe even record it. The city is Antioch if anyone cares.

There's old road outside of Colorado springs, Colorado called gold camp road. On this road there are three tunnels. Two are accessible by car, the third is only accessible on foot. There is a legend about the third tunnel. The legend is as follows:

Back in the 70-80s when they road was operational between the springs and cripple creek, a bus full if high schoolers was traveling between the two towns when the driver lost control in tunnel #3, killing all aboard. It is said that when you could drive thru that tunnel that if you turned off your lights and drove really slow thru the tunnel that when your car emerged, it would be covered with mysterious hand prints, with no finger prints, all in different sizes.

Since the third tunnel partially collapsed, the legend has spread to the first two. There is no record of any crash in any of the tunnels, but that third tunnel is eerie. Particularly after they erected a large gate in front if the entrance to keep drunk teenagers out. If you're of reasonable weight, you can slip right by it. It's eerie as I said, but the haunting rumors are bullshit in my opinion.

Antioch is also apparently a lot more haunted than I thought. I mean, I'd heard the various rumors growing up but I never really took a lot of it seriously. It's one of the oldest cities in California though so I guess it's to be expected.

Here in Las Vegas we hae a haunted house on Sahara and Sandhill. It's abandoned, but if you drive dow the street, you're supposed to be chased down by some crazy old lady in a car. She only chases you off the property though, then she dissapears.

My friends and I went there one night and 3 of them went to walk to the house while me and my other pal driving waited in the car. We got wrried because they were gone for some time, and our headlights started to flicker. They came back and said they saw nothing and we just left.

Indianafag here, I live in Muncie (the north-eastern part of the state) and while our actual town doesn't have much in the way of true "local legends" Indiana itself is supposedly a very paranormal place.

However, the only personal thing I could think of is that, growing up, you are always told how the cornfields (any cornfield) is always totally taboo. And not in that "Don't you kids go wandering off way now, ya hear!" that kids always get thrown at them, that's said too, but you can always tell when an adult tells a kid to stay away from some place because it's just dangerous and when there is something darker going on.

I remember specifically (and this is absolutely true but of course no one has to believe me at all) when I was about 13 or 14 I was up really late and looking out the window at the surrounding fields. I simply recall the shapes and shadows in the cornfields were not at all normal, yes the skeptics will come up with numerous answers and explanations (and hell, they may be right) but corn doesn't look and move like something big is walking through it, not even the shadows of corn in the pale half moon.

There was this old house/church about 20 minutes north of our home town. And it was such a cliche as you had to drive 10 minutes of that down a long dirt road with another abandoned church next to the house.

Well you would walk inside and see a giant gaping hole in the floor, it seemed bottomless as we shine a flashlight into it and couldn't see anything.

Old children's toys from 1930-1940's(?) were sprawled out from the living room into the side room along with old newspapers.

The upstairs carried the same rotting flesh stench for about 7 months (we decided to go back) yet none of us had the balls to go up there. To this day the only recorded murder ever in my town was located inside this house about 30 years ago.

It's hard to find details online because Hilo is such an old town, but there are rumors/stories that the old nursery of the old hospital is haunted.

The Old Hilo Hospital has been converted into an adult day care center and office space for various local government agencies. The building itself is creepy. It looks exactly like your stereotypical creepy hospital from movies; it's pretty insane. A lot of the old buildings (and maybe even the old nursery) have been torn down, but it's hard to tell. The jungle consumes and surrounds everything here. I've known people who have worked in the old hospital building and they all have stories about voices, footsteps, misplaced items, etc. There have been a few articles in the local paper even.

As for the old nursery itself... Back a few decades ago it caught fire, burning alive most of the nurses and babies. Locals say that if you go out to the area at night, you can hear they crying and screams of the infants and feel things tugging at your clothes and touching you. Everyone just refers to the place as "Babies Cry".

A lot of punk ass teenagers (like when I was younger) frequent there to drink and get high. Now I can't smoke due to health issues, but I can say I have seen some pretty weird shit, if interested.

It's really out in the middle of nowhere.

The story is that a farmer in his family lived in the house across and down the road from this tunnel. They are a good kilometer or 2 so away from each other.

The farmer had a young daughter who had been caught torturing one of the farm animals. As punishment, she was to sleep in the barn, by herself, for the night.

The farmer and his wife woke in the middle of the night to see the barn in flames. They died trying to safe their daughter.

When officials arrive, they couldn't find out how the fire had started, or how the daughter's body was found in that tunnel.

Some creepy personal stories about that place, too.

Local myth is about this one house that all the kids refer to as "Farmer Ted's house". This guy had a loving family until his wife died of cancer, and his daughter was kidnapped and murdered some years ago. After that incident he started to focus only on his garden, man it was a beautiful garden, words could not describe it. Eventually Farmer Ted killed himself (no one knew why, because no one wants to go inside of the house or anywhere near it). We live in south Florida, and in summer our lawns get all dried out and brown, but not farmer ted's house all his plants and grass are so green, and nobody goes to water them either. We don't know why it is like that, but we all assume it has something to do with Farmer Ted.

Baker's Mansion - Old steel tycoon's daughter's ghost apparently moves her old/unused wedding dress.

Centralia, city with burning mines beneath, is in PA.

Pennhurst - abandoned hospital/asylum/care place; was basically it's own self-sufficient community. Rumors of neglect, abuse, and other things on patients eventually proven true, so it was shut down. Was a good place for urban exploring until some company bought it and made a haunted house attraction out of it.

Unused subways/shut down subway in Altoona, Pennsylvania. Story about people being killed down there, children getting lost and dying in it, etc.

Not exactly a local legend, but my great uncle was killed by his wife in a house in Altoona. Since then, those that moved in have stayed there 6 months tops before moving out. Stain in the floor where his body was won't come out, noises, random sounds of a gunshot, etc. My grandmother has spoken to various people/families that lived in the house and most mention the shit that happens before even finding out that someone was murdered there.

A curved stretch of road on the B6105 between Glossop and Woodhead is known as the Devils Elbow, it has been the scene of strange events and is associated with a Devil legend. Many place names in this area may have strange origins. Names such as Shining Clough and Lantern Pike suggest places associated with mysterious light phenomena.

There's a myth that my old high school was built over a mental institution, and that a specific building is haunted there. People have reported lights turning on by themselves, sounds of footsteps when there's nobody there, apparition of a child, and other freaky shit. I was at a Christmas party for the music department, and I swear I saw, at about 9pm, someone walking through the commons, which were locked. None of us were able to go in, and nobody had the key. There's an old building up the street from me, very old, pre-Civil War. Beautiful building that's been converted to small offices, a doctor, a law office, shit like that. There's a cafe open for lunch on the first floor. It used to be a stop for old Underground Railroad to get slaves to the North (this is Maryland, a border state), and the legend goes that a lot of slaves did make it through just fine. Not all of them though.

When the construction company was rehabbing the basement, after ripping up the old stone floor, they discovered hundreds of dismembered skeletons going down dozens of feet. The last one they found was 64 feet below the stones. Forensics determined that, based on the skeletal structure, they were all African Americans, and carbon dating put them around the 1840s to 1850s.

What's strange is how they were dismembered. The edges of the bones were, in most cases, perfectly sliced, sometimes at odd angles. Sometimes they were sliced halfway, then snapped. A few were sliced with very precise curves. Now if you think back to the way limbs were amputated in the Civil war, these cuts were way ahead of their time, some by over 150 years.

One legend here in Brisbane is that of the Brisbane Arcade.

Patrick Mayne was an Irish man who moved to Brisbane, and was suspected to be behind the brutal murder of a very wealthy man. The basis for these allegations is because shortly after the death of this man, Mayne conveniently inherited a near identical sum of money as that of what was robbed from the wealthy man, despite the fact that Mayne was formerly quite poor.

Despite the family's immense wealth, they were shunned from society, and the whole family had to suffer hate and resent from all of the Brisbane due to the alleged origins of the family's wealth.

Anyway, it's not exceptionally scary, but there have been several reports that during less busy hours at the Brisbane Arcade, and at night, that assorted ghosts of the Mayne family can be seen roaming the halls, going about their business. It's even claimed that they interact with those who see them, though rarely. Never actually speaking or stopping, but just smiling or tipping their hats.

Here on Lord Howe Island we have the story of Black Billy.

Black Billy lived and worked on the island collecting palm seeds and was named 'Black Billy' because he was supposedly the only black dude either on the seeding team/the island at the time.
Anyway one day he decides to head north to North Bay with his dogs, set up camp and seed. Three days later one of his dogs returned with severe rope burn around it's midsection and Black Billy's body was never found.
The Older generation say that on a still, quiet night sometimes he joins you around the campfire.

Not really scary, but we've all accepted it as truth.

Well there's nothing all that exciting where I live, though I'm not too far from Walhalla. Which is pretty much a historical township, very few people actually live there and is full of well preserved buildings. It used to be a mining town, though all the mines are closed now.
I have heard a few stories from there when I went on a ghost tour, though they aren't that exciting. It's really only the cemetary that's kinda creepy.
As you can see in the picture it's built on a very steep hill. A few people have died after visiting the cemetary and even some people have died while visiting it. Though I blame people who died there for their own stupidity, as the ground is not very stable and going there at night is not a good idea (even if I've done it).

My Mum also told me about a particular grave that essentially says it will curse anyone who looks down on it. I have not seen this grave myself though.

I have only been to the cemetary on 2 occasions, both at night time. Both times were also very different experiences.

Just short dumb little stories I heard from friends back when I was 12, but amusing enough. Malaysian here, the Japanese invaded the country back in WW2 and the town's main high school was used as their one of their base of operations.

Apparently at night if you go to the fields you can hear the sound of Japanese soldiers marching. There's also a big tree in the school that someone had hung themselves on years ago, and all attempts to cut down the tree have failed.

This one's true, there's also a big underground tunnel you can crawl through that leads to a convent on the other side of town. Basically all the stories related to this tunnel are students crawling through them and reaching a dead end since the convent end sealed their entrance, mostly claustrophobic stories. The tunnel's sealed on both ends now, but back in my dad's days in the school he said there wasn't anything particularly special about the tunnel, students just threw their rubbish in there.

As for the ghost stories, first one involves some students who were having their scout camp in the field. 3 of them decided to go to the classes and knock on each door as a bet. Eventually they reached a certain door where the kid knocked, and a Japanese soldier apparition opened the door and beheaded the kid with a Japanese sword. The other 2 ran off and came back with teachers but the beheaded student's body was missing.
...Obviously false, but scared me back when I first heard it.

Second one, the security guard apparently saw the green lights from the surau (muslim prayer room) one night. When he went inside to look he saw a female vampire (locally known as pontianak). Quickly ran off and resigned the next day. Not exactly related, but when I was 12, this one Saturday morning apparently the high school's janitor was run over by a car, and his corpse was on the road with the guts splattered around the road. I didn't want to see it, but my friends went ahead and did.

I live in the northern state and the rural areas have the story of the Matinta: my mom's family told that there was this old woman that lived far away from the town square of the little farm where they vacationed when they were younger. Everybody in the village knew of her. Apparently the old hag had the ability to turn into a bird called Matinta that would haunt and follow people walking alone on the roads. If you heard her screech, it meant bad luck soon.
But my favorite part was that she could also turn her skin inside out, and would walk through the roads screeching, presumably while carrying her bowels to prevent dragging.

The way to send her away was to offer her tobacco, and say that you'd leave it by the door the next day. It would be gone in the morning.

The thing is, and my aunts and uncle all swear by it, is that, one night, one of my mom's cousin heard the screech and, jokingly, said for it to come back to get the tobacco the next day. The noise stopped at the same time: you can imagine their faces... so they played it off, saying it was nonsense...
They say that, the very next day, this old woman, that lived a couple of houses after the end of the village per se, arrived by the house asking for tobacco, saying that someone promised her some.
Such is life in the third world.

Dartmoor is a scary as shit place. I did a lot of hikes and long walks there when i was younger, and you'd always see mutilated sheep and things, old abandoned houses and mines, its fucking creepy. I implore you all to visit this place if you're ever nearby. The prison is FUCKING CREEPY as well.

it used to be an all women's school way back in the 20's I want to say. there were underground tunnels built so that the women wouldn't have to go out in the cold in their skirts (uniform)

these tunnels have since been blocked off. in my old residence hall from freshman year, blair, you could go downstairs to the basement and see the doors to the tunnels, but they were of course locked. it is rumored that a girl was murdered in the tunnels, and she now haunts the basement of blair, and the basement of mary lyon, another residence hall right near blair. the two halls are connected by the tunnels. i have heard stories and experiences from people, but never experienced anything myself.

well, is very regional.
anyway, each year this thing appers and scare the shit of anyone is near the zone.
they call it the golden ship because duh is golden and for some old myth the "indigenas" have here about a god with a golden ship, i don´t remember the name of that god...but i remember he was a good of harvest.

anyway, each year he appears near my house in a field. i see it when i was a kid, even before i knew the legend, me and my father were scared like a week

just picture this

you are walking happily with the food you buy at the market and then in a field that is fucking alone, a golden ufo appears and is right above you, very very close and makes a sound, a terrible terrible sound...man i can continue talking about it. i just remeber i remember that and man im not gonna sleep tonight

I live in West Jakarta, Indonesia.
I accidentally enrolled on this certain school a few years ago.
Little that I know that many years back, my school building was a massacre spot during the event called "G-30S" (go wiki it, if you could find it, that is.)

Every morning before most of the student arrived, there's this little girl in white runnin around the corridor. She's just there. Running around.

There's also this "woman" nested in the girls restroom. Witness said that the girl look like "Kuntilanak". This woman did no harm. She's only there, and surprise every girl that she wants to play with from behind the door.

And on the gym, there are more. Every night, they say that on the basketball ring, a figure's hanging there. Without no lower parts of body (stomach etc.)

As the name implies this forest is old as fuck. The trees grow tall and thick, blocking almost all sunlight even during the midst of day.
A local legend says that a wood pixie enchanted the forest to protect a treasure from invaders.
If you enter the forest with any form of weapon the forest will retaliate in with creating confusion and making the invading party get lost and eventually starve to death. (Weapon can be anything from a knife to an axe/gun)

Hell, people are even forbidden to hunt in this forest due to the number of people who has never returned from entering.

Our town is about 10 minutes from some tall mountains and some canyons. Farmers usually put cattle on top of the mountain and let them graze the rest of the year, they eventually follow a specific path to get back to areas where the farmers pick them up later in the year. There's always one canyon that the cattle avoid, mostly cause there isn't much grass there. The whole place is just filled with nothing but dead trees and small patches of live grass.

Since cows don't graze there and farmers don't patrol the area to check-in on livestock it became a hot spot for parties. I haven't met one person who hasn't had a story about seeing weird people out there, or weird noises / sites. One of my friends hates going up there nowadays after he swore he saw his mother being ripped apart in one of the clearings of the canyons when he went off for a piss break. When he got home, she was fine.

Anyways, stories range, but the most common site is a group of people with odd porportioned bodies. Long extended legs, very small torso, large head with seemingly black and white paint on it. Basically they look like really fucked up mimes. I don't know the real name of the canyon, but I know someone from my grandparents generation started to refer to the place as "clown town" and that name just kind of stuck.
