I think the other thread reached autosage again, so I'm making another. Candlemass, for those of you new, is a man who came into contact with me when I was twelve. He apparently works as a sort of justice-worker somewhere, and a sort of dispenser of ass-kicking to supernatural, dangerous things.
Last thread was here:
>>9590287 Here is the explanation of planes someone asked for.
Sure, basically there are lots of smaller planes, with shorter spans. They (somehow) go on forever, but are still "shorter" than the normal planes. These Candlemass calls "pocket planes".
Getting in and out of these pocket planes is difficult to impossible- if you're in there, it's pretty much impossible to get out unless you stage a jailbreak.
In the larger planes, it's easier to travel in and out of them with small rifts in the planes. These are generally inhabited by restless energies, and things like ghosts.
Interplanar travel can be done in a multitude of ways, but Candlemass prefers the rifts because he's just one person, and it takes quite a lot of energy for some of the other ones, so its easier to do it with a mass of things.
For example, you can apparently make a huge tear in planar material, which takes the form of, say, electrical storms or mists.
But, as Candlemass pointed out, this takes quite a lot of energy, and he's just one Punisher.

Hi, guys, sorry I had to head out to work. The weather is getting ugly, and it makes Candlemass a little wistful. As he says, his most difficult jobs in terms of the supernatural came during the winter, while most of his difficult jobs in terms of humans always came in the summer. I was eating a quick dinner and scrolling through some sites when Candlemass appeared, walking in from the closed door. His body was hitching when he walked, so I was immediately concerned. It's not like he's particularly graceful or gracile, but he never has had problems with moving before, so I asked him immediately if he was okay. He said he was, it was just the weather making all of his old wounds and scars ache. I asked him if there was anything I could do to help, but he just dropped on one of my chairs, eyes closing and shaking his head. So instead I just gave him the coffee I had been drinking and asked him to tell me about it.
ANONYMOOSE !6vASNVzE.k
It's common for people to have something that others see as a romantic relationship while remaining completely platonic. Candlemass is, apparently, from another plane and judging by the odd clothing, probably a different time. Where he comes from, a gesture like a kiss to the cheek/forehead/temple, whatever could be common practice, similar to that of La Bise in france. Lets leave the romance thing to rest and see how the rest of the story unfolds, eh?

So, Candlemass took that as an invitation to regale me with stories of his experiences, and told me about some of his rougher experiences that bordered on the paranormal. Kind of the more normal ones we experience here. During the summer time, some years ago, Candlemass had been summoned to a lodging hall set far off in the recesses of town. It had been a pleasant day- the sun was out and morning mist was rising off the fields, and the birds were singing lazily from the branches. And Candlemass was going to go judge a man who had murdered the entire occupancy of the tenancy building, and had made sculptures from their organs and teeth.

You're looking for 'scary' threads, like how to summon demons and what not. Quoted By:
Candlemass had never relished his job as a Punisher- he knew he was good at it, and he knew it was neccessary. This type of attitude, he assured me, had always helped him retain perspective, and keep his edge. But he still hadn't been prepared for what he had seen in the lodging building. The place had been turned into an abbatoir. The scent of blood and bodily fluids bled out into the street when he reached the door. Several low-level council members had been guarding the door when he got there, but they looked skittish, and Candlemass had known it was going to be particularly bad. He found the man in the pantry, tucked into the furthest corner, his eyes so wide Candlemass could see the whites around the iris, and a grin pulling his face tight. When he saw Candlemass, he'd begun to laugh hysterically, and say they'd been right, and only kept repeating that, no matter what Candlemass had said to him. Finally he'd said, "The dog was right." This stopped Candlemass, and he'd been about to ask what he'd meant, when the man had sprung forward, wielding the same knife he'd killed the rest of the occupants with, and opened Candlemass up from hip to sternum. Reflecting on it, he'd said that had probably been one of the times he'd been sure he'd been close to dying from a human. The council members caught the man when he'd tried to flee past them, dogpiling him, and Candlemass had meted out his punishment.

He'd wrapped his ropes, still trying to hold his innards into his belly, around the man's neck until he stopped struggling, and the life fled from his body in one, last human gush. The council members took him to the hospital, and he spent some time in recovery, but Candlemass knew something unnatural had driven the man mad, and he'd be the one to go and find it. The scar, he said, he still had, and it ached in the cold. But that didn't matter as much that he'd gotten the job done. It took him nearly another six months to complete it, however. The rest of the case would have to wait until the first snows had fallen.

OP, thank you so much for the story. It's absolutely engaging, even with all of the bitching from anon in between your posts. I have two connections that I made, which I'd like to share for anyone else who may have had them. One, Candlemass reminds me of a character from a sci-fi series, Niko Leandros (Nightlife - Rob Thurman.) Two, I'm not sure why, but before you mentioned different dimensions and planes, I thought that Candlemass was from New England in the 1600s, at the time of the Puritans. It just seems like he was part of an old secret society. But the part about the intermingling planes actually explains Candlemass's existence in your life more than time-traveling Puritans, haha. Candlemass does seem to be looking out for her while at the same time making the final desicions... Example: testing her when she was young by dragging her to a place she didnt want to be, sitting in the basement (being told by her parents) that this was some kind of training she was supposed to do, pressured her to going to bed early due to that incident where she bruised her ribs, and even forbidding her to record/take a snapshot with him. What if.. that poster was really him and by his opiniom of being disappointed with us, what are the chances that Candlemass asked OP to lie to us? I mean.. he could have regretted writing on 4chan in the first place.. Am I just being too hopeful? Anonymous

I'm probably going to be called a troll from the tiny rabid fanbase this story has built up, but this story is seriously thin. It started off with loads of potential, if a little cliche in its telling. The author is no literary master, but she does a good enough job of evoking mood, and generating interest. I think in her desire to generate interest, she has spread the story very very thin, so that she can have multiple threads for a story that doesn't seem to be going anywhere. At certain times she'll dangle an interesting plot thread, like a story of a case Candlemass has participated in as a punisher, but shortly after, she'll leave again and return with cryptic nonsense. That it took so long for her to dispel the idea that the story was heading towards romance also speaks to her blatant desire to generate as much interest as possible without actually delivering. It was only in the third thread that she mentions "hey this isn't a romance" most likely because she wasn't sure she could keep interest otherwise. As the story stands, I don't see it as any different from the cancerous roleplayers. This story doesn't seem to be going anywhere. Hell, in this thread, i'd say less than 10% of all the posts is actually content, and none really move the story beyond the shit established in the other threads. tl;dr: The author has some potential, but this story is a dead end.

real or not im still pretty interested hell i've checked in everyday for almost a week now, i'd just like more content, there has been more Q & A than content today and the content was just about her waking up, fucking great move on with the story also i would actually like some proof if real or not, id still read either way im just curious. if real Great i'll be looking into phenomena like this in the future ie giant planar storms connection to the Bermuda triangle.

>>9600460 I'm checking up on it too, only because I like to support the creators of oc on /x/. Honestly, what it sounds like to me is that it is suffering from two things: a lack of planning and an author that seems to be playing it ultra safe to keep from losing the budding fandom. After all, if your story doesn't make any plot related moves, you can continue dropping little snippets without much risk of backlash from people who may not like a particular development. I understand that the story is non linear and that events don't follow standard story telling, but even in a non linear plot, the Op should have moved us further by now.
To me, it's not about real or fake. If the op is skilled at weaving a story, and doesn't stumble over themselves too much (like creating a situation where proof could be easily obtained but not even having fabricated stuff at the ready) I like the story.
With long form stories like this, it becomes essential that the op be proficient at moving things along. Popping up once every six hours to drop a couple of lines and then march away with some excuse might seem like a solid strategy for generating interest in the short run, but note OP, that even your fans will tire of that tactic. And if you fail to deliver, as easily and as readily as they built you up as some sort of budding novelist, they will be spamming your threads and tearing you down amidst cries of your faggotry. If you have a plot, get to it. If not, stop creating threads until you have something to contribute.

"the punishers", but op has not been improving any of her so-called-skills. instead she blacks out and is remains back at base one.according to op, this candlemass has been worried for her and has returned due to her forgetting her past and her training but all she informs her followers is about his past and how is just chilling in her room.. after evaluation, candlemass is just a tulpa that keeps her company and her subconscious is only trying to protect his existance.

Sorry, guys, took me a while to get back. I walked into my kitchen, and it wasn't my kitchen any more. It was like walking into the Reversed world in Silent Hill, but more extreme. None of the furniture, appliances, or anything were the same. There was a strong smell of mildew in the air, and the sink was making the strange, gurgling noise that had lured me into coming out in the first place. And when I turned around, it wasn't my house anymore. My stairs were gone, and what was behind me were walls stripped of lathing and insulation. It looked as if the house I was suddenly in hadn't been lived in for a long time. And somewhere, I could hear a scratching, as if from a very large animal. At first, I was petrified, and I stood there, waiting, stock still as I debated what to do. There was a sudden burst of scratching against a door near me in the adjacent hallway, and I decided it was probably time for me to leave.

I just picked the nearest door, went through it, and found an enclosed, outdoor porch, which was even more decayed than the rooms inside. The floor sagged, but I didn't want to go back in, so I slammed the door shut as an afterthought, and threw myself at the door that lead to the outside. Locked. Not just locked, it had been nailed shut. Next best thing was one of the windows flanking the door, which were also locked, but not nailed shut Fucking thing hadn't been moved in ages, but damned if that thing didn't fly right the fuck up in my panic. I heard something shrill on the kitchen window behind me, and I involuntarily turned to look. It was as if someone had combined a dog and a monkey, and then gave it a goat's fur. Fucker was black, with huge, sharp teeth, almost like a boar. One hand, paw, whatever, was on the window. It stopped when it saw me looking at it, and snorted. I dove right the fuck out of that window and started running. And I'll be damned if it wasn't the house Candlemass took me to, near my childhood playground, all those years ago.

When I got in from work earlier, Candlemass highjacked me to talk to me. He seemed to know already what had happened, and looked pretty grave.
Apparently, there had been a shift in planes, which would explain my weird mood this morning, and I had walked right into it.
So, what had I been seeing?
A sort of pocket dimension. So it really was sort of like Silent Hill.
Candlemass told me he's going to start trying to teach me how to recognize shifts and how to avoid them, if possible.
For the moment, he left me with some good advice- if I feel wary about it, don't approach it. Humans have instincts for a reason.

OP !!TXSor/luCZQ
Quoted By:
Since I realize there has been very little content I've been posting, I'll give you the account Candlemass told me about the thing. Apparently, it's one of many, and they're numerous where he is. Typically, you can find them in abandoned buildings, and mostly old barns. He was asked by the town council to obliterate a nest of them some years ago, he told me. It was during the summer, near a mainly unused thoroughfare. He'd gone at night, and the weather had been slightly more cool than normal. He said he could smell them easily better before he could see them. Because of Candlemass's particular ability, he doesn't even necessarily have to get close to a target in order to take care of it. Since these things, known as Black Hulls, are particularly vicious, he wanted to keep as far away from them as possible, and especially a whole family of them. His colleagues had told him already it would be impossible to complete the job alone, and he'd already gotten offers of help from several of them, including Daniel Lamb (who worked with wind and air) and Rachel Dogood (who worked with basically poisons and narcotics). But he'd refused help from them all. Why? Basically because he knew he could handle them himself. His entire kill record had been done alone, and he'd never before worked (even temporarily) with a partner.
OP !!TXSor/luCZQ
Quoted By:
So, when he was within twenty feet of the barn, he could already hear their growling. He walked calmly around the structure (knowing they'd never come out to him as long as he stayed far enough away), laying down a line of gunpowder, and led a wick of it right up to the barn itself. Immediately, he heard about seven sets of claws all scratching the corner of the wood at once, but he didn't allow himself to be deterred. He walked back to his previous spot behind the old farm wall, and set the wick alight. He hadn't anticipated there to be old fuel in the barn as well, and he was quite impressed with the explosion it created. When he went to check his handiwork, after the worst of the fire died down, he was able to find all seven of the creatures' bodies.

They do persecute other humans- it's part of their job. Candlemass is kind of a rock-star, though, so he deals with the more dangerous, glitzy types.
I don't think Punishers can be arbitrarily summoned. Never tried. I think Candlemass just sort of linked himself to me.

It reads: To My Chickadee: Enclosed you will find what will be of indeterminate use in the future. Use it well. Y.L.S (Your Loving Servant) J.L.V. Candlemass More pics later, but now back to work

>>9602516 You're right. No one at all. It's not like you can go to your local walmart and purchase a cheap-ass calligraphy pen. And you can't order really nice dip pens and ink online.
And there's no way any calligraphy still exists, even that shitty quality used in the letter.
Nope. It's impossible.
Really: Start with Chancery Italic, and move on from there.
Some people completely lack critical thinking, or the slightest knowledge of the world.

sadly I'll have to agree a bit with
>>9602711 the calligraphic handwriting doesn't look right for someone who is used to writing with a pen from the ~16-1700s.
still, look forward to some more OC. Frankly i don't give a shit about if OP is legit or not. I'm here for some riveting tales

Okay, guys, so good night for now. It's been a long day, and I definitely need sleep. Tomorrow, I will have more pictures to post of the workbook. There's an entry in here on something called Red Skulls, and a tooth in a small paper packet attached to the page. Tomorrow, I'l take pictures to show you. Thank you all for everything so far! Candlemass showed back up later today. His face was bloody, and he moved like he was hurt. I just let him chill out and sleep. It seems like he uses my place to crash occasionally. I'm a little worried- he's alive, but still sleeping.

Has Candlemass become the new king of /x/?
OP !!TXSor/luCZQ
Quoted By:
When I woke up, Candlemass was tending to a headwound using my bedroom mirror. I asked him what had happened, and he said there had been a minor altercation between himself and the thing that lived in the old house. I asked him what he had done, fearing he'd burned the house down, and he said the thing had gotten the drop on him before he immolated it. He was surprised it hadn't caught anything else on fire. I think he knew I'd be angry, so he cut me off at the pass by asking how I was getting along with the notebook.
OP !!TXSor/luCZQ
Quoted By:
Of course, I asked him the questions I'd gotten since last night, and he said he was happy I was already so curious. Yes, the beginning page was the Punisher's philosophy. Apparently rhymes are important in helping Punishers learn and remember important lessons in their life. He had quizzed me as to what I thought the second page meant. I said it sounded like telling the person to let go. "Correct, Chickadee!" He'd said, with a full grin. It was to encourage the Punisher not to "look" but to "seek". Too many people go into a situation blindly, and they usually get preyed on first. But, if you let go of your most extraneous barrier we erect in society (defense against other people, defense against noise, criticism, etc) you can accept much more stimuli than you had before.
OP !!TXSor/luCZQ
The third page is a diagram of the connection between elements, and, essentially, our reality. He told me to puzzle through it, and if I got too stuck, he'd help me out. I asked him, finally, if it would be okay to show this to some people, because they wanted to know, too, and he scowled at me at first, and launched into a diatribe on the "unknowing sleepers" and started pressuring me as to why I was hanging out with them before he considered. "You know what, Chickadee? You could very well be the vessal for their enlightenment, and prolong their live a few more years." He was a little uncomplimentary, but he let me post up the rest of the journal, anyway. If I have room in this thread, I'll be posting more pictures up throughout the day when I have more time.
