It doesn't really matter what you're dealing with unless it's alive, cause if it is, you'll need some more tech than this.
I'd say, one of the easiest ways to actually affect other people in good ways, is to just kneel down, close your hands on your heart and while doing this, reiterate the purpose of this "prayer/meditation", ask any angel (or whatever you believe in, I prefer my buddy) to come forth. Provided that your imagination/visualization is loose enough, you will perceive a change in the atmosphere (in the least).
Then you interact with them, asking for whatever you need, and they will guide you to where you need to be to achieve that goal.
