WASHINGTON: Penasihat kanan keselamatan negara Amerika Syarikat mengusulkan agar negara itu menggantung bantuan ekonomi dan ketenteraan bernilai jutaan dolar kepada Mesir.
Tindakan itu adalah sebagai respons kepada langkah pihak tentera mengguling Encik Mohamed Mursi, Presiden pertama negara itu yang dilantik secara demokratik.
Jika usul itu diterima, ia merupakan perubahan dramatik pendirian asal pentadbiran Presiden Barack Obama, yang sebelum ini enggan menyifatkan insiden 3 Julai itu sebagai satu penggulingan kuasa.
Ia juga dijangka mempunyai kesan mendalam terhadap hubungan rapat di antara dua sekutu itu yang telah terjalin sejak berdekad-dekad lamanya dan merupakan tunggak bagi mengekalkan stabiliti di rantau Timur Tengah.
Usul itu telah diserahkan kepada Encik Obama sejak seminggu lalu tetapi beliau tidak dijangka membuat keputusan muktamad sehingga kongres membuat undian berkaitan tindakan ketenteraan ke atas Syria pada Isnin ini.
Amerika menyumbang bantuan AS$1.5 bilion setahun dengan AS$1.3 bilion bagi tujuan ketenteraan dan selebihnya bagi sektor ekonomi.
Hanya bantuan kepada pemerintah Mesir diusul digantung buat sementara waktu.
Encik Obama dilaporkan perlu memutuskan nilai bantuan yang patut digantung.
Dana itu akan disalurkan semula sebaik sahaja negara itu dipimpin semula oleh pemerintah yang dilantik secara demokratik.
Bantuan yang terjejas itu akan turut melibatkan dana kepada syarikat Amerika yang menjual peralatan kepada tentera Mesir.
Sebelum ini, Washington telah pun menggantung penghantaran empat jet pejuang F-16 kepada Mesir.
Namun, dana bagi menyokong kawalan keselamatan di kawasan Semenanjung Sinai dan sempadan Mesir dengan Jaluran Gaza, tidak akan terjejas.
Selasa lalu, ribuan penyokong Encik Mursi kembali memenuhi jalan raya di bandar-bandar di seluruh negara itu bagi mengecam tindakan kekerasan yang dilakukan tentera Mesir dalam beberapa siri keganasan sebelum ini.
Dalam perhimpunan yang menandakan genap dua bulan Encik Mursi disingkir tentera itu, penunjuk perasaan mula berarak di bandar-bandar seperti Delta Nile, Terusan Suez dan Kahirah.
Bagaimanapun, tiada laporan berlaku keganasan dalam perhimpunan itu.
Sebuah mahkamah tentera pula telah menjatuhkan hukuman penjara ke atas 52 pengikut Persaudaraan Islam (Ikhwanul Muslimin) dengan seorang daripadanya dipenjara seumur hidup berikutan penglibatan dalam pertempuran di Suez.
Tiga lagi defendan dipenjara selama 15 tahun dan 45 lagi dipenjara antara lima hingga 10 tahun.
Sementara itu, sebuah mahkamah Kahirah telah memerintahkan penutupan saluran berita Mesir kepunyaan AI-Jazeera bersama tiga lagi stesen yang menyiarkan laporan pro-Ikhwanul.
Ahad lalu, tiga wartawan yang bekerja dengan AI-Jazeera diusir dari Mesir selepas pejabat rangkaian itu diarahkan tutup sejak 3 Julai lalu. - Agensi.
Every post people are whine about examples of different ideas under tyranny and push their ideas by providing exampleos of it working under liberty. In truth whether a government is tyrannical or libertarian is the biggest deciding factor in politics.
We should all get together and say, while we disagree about the finer points of [insert subject here] we all agree that tyranny is bullshit and would unite if someone started persecuting people for exercising their right to the freedom of speech or other tyrannical acts.

This discussion is an attempt to induce from the facts how a 1st world country could socio-economically eliminate poverty. Every political group believes that eliminating poverty is a good idea.
Modern civilisation can easily eliminate poverty that is not caused by crime or accidents as the gdp per capita indicates. It can also reduce crime considerably, but that discussion can take place in another thread. Commonly in this thread people make irresponsible sweeping assumptions about other posters, this is due to petty foibles which are irrational ideas you have. Ask other posters questions before making sweeping assumptions, for instance I sound very much like a socialist, I am not I am a realist, at this point socialists will believe that I am insulting socialism and saying it is not realistic. I am a realist so you must prove to me the merits of your argument and cannot make any sweeping assumptions. Here is a brief list of things which would decrease poverty.
Maintenance of the market economy. Market economies are much more efficient than planned economies.
Minimum wage respective of what funds a person needs to keep themselves out of poverty. This could be in the form of food stamps and state accomodation and any money a person can earn above minimum wage will be in the form of money. No one will get state accomodation unless they have a job. The state will seek to make the accomodation as economical as possible whilst staying clear of anything that might cause crime or poverty.
Welfare will only go to under 16s, this will be extensive and be aimed entirely at ensuring the person can get a job when they have finnished their education. Parents will not get paid for having children, the money will go to the children to ensure the parents spend the money on their children.
Schools will be privatised.
A good idea would be to train orphans from infancy to work in special forces and as elite pilots as a special warrior-class in the military. Some people might disagree with this.
The government will privatise it's job centres and job advertising/searching agencies.
Hospitals will be privatised.
Insurance companies will be privatised and everyone with a job must pay a small sum of salary to insurance
