Thinking of hooking up?

TRUE LOVE? Japanese lingerie maker Ravijour's high-tech bra that supposedly unhooks only when the wearer is really in love.

In a long-awaited fusion between hot-blooded hormones and cold-headed engineering, a Japanese lingerie company has produced a bra that it claims will unlock only when the wearer is really in love.

The "True Love Tester" uses sensors and a special gadget linked to a mobile device to analyse the pattern and speed of the user's heart beat in the heat of the moment.

If the app determines the woman's feelings are for real, the clasp at the front pops open, AFP reported.

The bra is a gimmick by lingerie brand Ravijour, which says it is not for sale but forms part of a publicity campaign for the marque's 10th anniversary.

"We wanted to do something that wouldn't just appeal to people who wear our products but also to lift the romantic mood between men and women," said spokesman Yuka Tamura.

In a video, viewers are shown how the glittering gold bra conceals sensors inside the cup, which send wireless signals to a smartphone.

The app studies the heart's changing pattern and the duration of the change, which the makers say will allow it to distinguish between activities as diverse as jogging and flirting.

[1388723108] Apple Denies NSA Access To Products

Apple denies NSA 'back-door' access to products

CUPERTINO - Apple says it was unaware of the National Security Agency's (NSA's) efforts to hack into iPhones and has never facilitated the US agency's bid to install backdoors in its products.

US security researcher Jacob Applebaum on Monday described to a security conference in Germany the NSA programme outlined in a purportedly leaked document that said it could intercept SMS messages, access contact lists, locate the whereabouts of a phone, access voice mail or activate its microphone and camera.

German magazine Der Spiegel has reported that NSA analysts refer internally to iPhone users as "zombies" who "pay for their own surveillance". It released a number of slides detailing the NSA's hacking division - known internally as the Tailored Access Operations, or TAO division.

One slide described an NSA "software implant for Apple iPhone" called DROPOUTJEEP that has all kinds of handy spy capabilities. It can also turn the iPhone into a "hot mic", using the phone's own microphone as a recording device and capture images via the iPhone's camera.

The Der Spiegel report is based on information that is over five old. The slide, dated January 2007 and last updated October 2008, claims the NSA needs close physical proximity to the iPhone to install DROPOUTJEEP.

Based on the report's timing, the NSA would have been targeting Apple's iOS5 operating system. Apple released its latest iOS7 operating system last September.

Nevertheless, privacy activists point out that the agency's capabilities have expanded, if anything, over the last five years.

"Imagine what they have now," technology adviser Christopher Soghoian at the American Civil Liberties Union tweeted.

Apple denies any involvement. It says it has "been unaware of this alleged NSA programme targeting our products" and "has never worked with the NSA to create a back door in any of our products, including iPhone".

Security researcher Graham Cluley says Mr Applebaum's presentation and the documents show a "broader range of tools the NSA apparently deploys against other technology companies and products, including Hewlett-Packard servers, Cisco firewalls, Huawei routers, and so on".

[1380994914] Why Are The US Government Shutdown

No.153140 View ViewReplyOriginalReport
US reels from effects of government shutdown

Much of the US government ground to a halt as Democrats and Republicans blamed each other for a partial shutdown that closed federal agencies, national parks and research facilities across the nation.

Ominously, there were suggestions from both parties that the shutdown, in its second day, could last for weeks.

The effect of the shutdown was felt also at the US Embassy around the world. The non-essential services have been held back.

An official of the embassy updated that it was offering only consular services. Visa applications are still being processed and the embassy's senior management was at work, but was told to suspend non-essential management including with the media.

WHY DID THE SHUTDOWN HAPPEN?

The US federal government had no choice. The US financial year ended on Sept 30, and politicians on Capitol Hill have failed to agree on a new budget for the 2013-2014 financial year. Without a budget deal approved by both parts of Congress, the House of Representatives and the Senate, there's no legal agreement to pay non-essential staff.

WHY COULDN'T THEY AGREE ON A DEAL?

Under the US Constitution, the president cannot unilaterally bring in legislation. And despite weeks of talks, Republicans continue to include cuts and delays to Mr Obama's Affordable Care Act in the budget legislation they sent to the Senate.

HOW MUCH DAMAGE WILL IT CAUSE?

If people aren't getting paid, they won't spend as much in the shops. They may be unable to meet essential financial commitments, such as mortgages and credit card payments. Analysts at IHS Global Insight have calculated that it will knock US$300 million a day off US economic output (total US nominal GDP, or output, was about US$16 trillion last year).

WHY DOESN'T IT HAPPEN IN OTHER COUNTRIES?

The shutdown situation is a product of the US democratic system. The Guardian reported. The president is both head of state and head of the federal government, without a guaranteed majority in either of the legislative bodies where new laws are debated and voted upon (because presidents, congressmen and women and senators are elected separately). The president can't simply ram laws through Capitol Hill.

VISIT POSTPONED

US President Barack Obama has postponed a visit to the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation and regional summits. He will be replaced by US Secretary of State John Kerry.
